Dubious claims

[edit]

Most of the claims for "the oldest" and "the largest" for this specific tree are over-blown. Before its loss, it was not a widely known tree. It doesn't appear in most of the standard sources for oldest/largest trees, or trees in the UK. It was certainly "large" and "old", but there is nothing solid to indicate that it was the largest or oldest, merely recentist reaction to a narrow news story. The size/ age statement ("reputed to be...") are cited to a 2002 source; hardly recent. It was also in List of Great British Trees prior to its recent collapse. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:18, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wales' national tree

[edit]

Q. petraea is described as "Wales' national tree", not the Pontfadog oak specifically. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:04, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's not what the cited source says. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:17, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
