Fair use rationale for Image:Princess pocahontas.jpg
[edit]Image:Princess pocahontas.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fantasy versus Reality
[edit]- I can't find any information, including here at Wikipedia, that says that there was ever a divorce or more husband's and children. She died on the return trip from England. JCgirlandlegal (talk) 07:09, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Fantasy and Reality
[edit]I cleaned up a bit about John Rolfe. The previous version said there was "no romance" involved in their marriage. It was complicated, but it appears Rolfe was genuinely fond of her, and they did have a child immediately. So there must have been some romance involved. It also implied she went to London as a "hostage." That's unfair and inaccurate. She was a wife and mother, and according to the accounts of the day was feted all over London. It was a publicity trip, but since she was clearly an Anglophile from the start, calling her a hostage doesn't cut it. I also added a bullet on her Anglophilia. She was a supporter of the poor, bewildered English colonists at Jamestown practically from the start. The Rousseau noble savage philosophy did not apply to the historical Matoaka at all. Historically, the movie was a gag-fest, even if you overlook the talking animals (and tree!!!) Bigmac31 (talk) 19:47, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

- Not done: please be more specific about what needs to be changed. Tim Pierce (talk) 16:33, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Main character
[edit]I have always been sure Pocahontas is the main character of the movie. Any arguments that this statement is not true?? Georgia guy (talk) 15:02, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- John Smith. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 18:26, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- Smith is the deuteragonist. Georgia guy (talk) 00:46, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
Spouse
[edit]I really need to edit this page, especially that particular spot.
John Rolfe is not the Disney Pocahontas character's spouse! He's not even her official lover! John Smith is, so it needs to be changed back ASAP, due to the Rolfe/Pocahontas relationship being non-canonical in the Disney universe. Thanks.
UPDATE: I'm still waiting to make this correction! >:( — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duke Remington (talk • contribs) 01:50, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- There are two Disney films mentioned in the article where the character appeared. The character had different loves interest in each although neither rose to level of significant other or spouse. Declaring the second film "non-canonical" is incorrect. It was a follow on to the first both done by Disney. Geraldo Perez (talk) 06:03, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Pocahontas is the 7th disney princess and not the first. Snow white was the first! 190.98.46.53 (talk) 06:41, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
- The article doesn't say she is the first princess, just that she is the first to have two love interests. RudolfRed (talk) 17:50, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Pocahontas is no longer the only American princess due to Tiana. The line that refers to her as "the first (and only)" needs to be edited. Sillytreespirit (talk) 02:24, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- I don't see this statement anywhere in the article? AD (talk) 03:05, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think they may have misread this part: "... is the first American Disney Princess. Pocahontas is also the first (and only) Disney Princess to have two love interests." Nothing to correct there. - SummerPhD (talk) 03:10, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Fictional Powhatan people
[edit]Please add Category:Fictional Powhatan people as a subcategory of Category:Fictional Native American people to the Pocahontas (Disney character) article. --72.67.93.68 (talk) 03:59, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
