[edit]I edited out some unnecessary comments about his performances being considered "hammy" and "fussy" to modern audiences. I personally don't think these comments are necessary. Thank you. - Chuckbronson45
Four Oscar Nominations, Not Six
[edit]He was nominated for the Academy Award FOUR times -- that is a FACT. He was an unofficial nominee for 1929's THE VALIANT and a write-in candidate for 1935's BLACK FURY. The text should not read he was nominated six times -- "Under consideration six times, including four official nominations" yes; nominated for an Oscar six times, no, as that is false.Shemp Howard, Jr. (talk) 16:58, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
Write-in candidate
[edit]I wikilinked write-in candidate as there are several film wikipage references and the term requires an explanation. I removed the following material which I think was intended to explain 'write-in candidate' within this article -- inappropriately I think but maybe someone might reintroduce some of it into a footnote in small font, something I've seen in other articles:
(The confusion is understandable: in older records, such as the 'Official Guide to the Oscars', only the four actual acting nominees are listed; in newer books, such as Tom O'Neil's 'Movie Awards', Muni's name is listed with the notation that records disagree as to whether he was an official nominee.) The Academy was understandably embarrassed: expectation had run high that Charles Laughton would receive the Best Actor award for his performance as Captain Bligh in Mutiny on the Bounty, for which he had already won the New York Film Critic's award. Unfortunately for him, three of the four nominees were from the same film- himself, Clark Gable, and Franchot Tone- and when multiple performers are nominated for the same film, they usually split the votes up and permit another candidate to win (the most famous example being Bette Davis's loss for the Best Actress Award in 1950 for All About Eve to Judy Holliday as a result of Anne Baxter's insistence on being nominated for the leading, rather than the supporting, role. Notable exceptions to this situation occurred when Shirley MacLaine won Best Actress over Debra Winger when both were nominated for the 1983 film Terms of Endearment, and when F. Murray Abraham won the Oscar as Best Actor for his performance as Antonio Salieri in 1984's Amadeus, although Thomas Hulce, who portrayed Mozart in the film, was also nominated in the Best Actor category.)
Not only did Victor McLaglen win for his role in The Informer, but Charles Laughton did not even place second that year. Muni did, even though he was a write-in candidate.

Where are the References?
[edit]This article has no references. I feel like putting {{citation}}
everywhere.--User:Brenont (talk) 05:18, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
New lead image
[edit]I just replaced the lead image with what strikes me as a much better photo. In case that opinion is disputed, we should consider getting other impressions. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 06:57, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Oscar nominations
[edit]As it is now, the text says he was nominated six times for the Oscars -in the first paragraph, and later it says twice he was nominated five times. That should be clarified. On a side note, is it necessary to state THREE times that he played an 80 year old person when he was twelve? --Nazroon (talk) 22:27, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- Fixed. However, if he had played the role of a 12-year-old when he was 80, that would be worth 3 mentions! ;) --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 23:13, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Austro-Hungarian
[edit]There's no such entity like an Austro-Hungarian person. One may be Austrian or Hungarian, not both at once. Muni was in fact a Polish Jew. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.73.15.162 (talk) 11:08, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Quote farm
[edit]We need to look at this quoting spam problem that has been downgrading the quality of our articles. I as have others have tried to explain to User:Light show about this ongoing problem. Would normally bring this up on user ... but It just gets deleted with no reply. So not sure how to approach the problem other them making quote spamming a guideline. Watling on community reply to my changes.-- Moxy (talk) 04:48, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
- The reason I deleted your comment was explained: Comments about a specific article should be put in the article's talk page, where other editors of that article can respond. Do not personalize article issues. It was also kind of strange that your message said not to "copy and paste", yet 85% of your message was just that, a copy and paste.
- I also explained that you should talk first, as to avoid ownership issues. I asked you to point out specifics of quotes that could be better paraphrased, and offered to let you try editing them yourself for a change. I've never seen you edit any of the articles you've complained about. In fact, I've never read anything you wrote that was not a complaint. Never anything positive, always negative.
- So maybe some clear examples of your own editing and paraphrasing would be valuable, instead of just complaining about grade school quotes. You can even use this talk page; take a quote and paraphrase it as an example. --Light show (talk) 05:34, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
- You are correct mostly negative (your the only one) every time I see you edit something its either a copy and pasting quotes or adding an image with questionable copyright status. Every time I edit a page your involved in you revert. So there is really nothing I can do but add spamming quotes like you do to the MOS in hopes others will again point out to you the problems with this type of plagiarism. With it part of the MOS this will give content editors the tool to correct articles with this problem. How many people and how many times will this come up before you get the point.--Moxy (talk) 10:56, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

Wrong date of birth
[edit]The document listed as source for the date of birth says 14 pazdziernik 1895, which is Polish for 14 October. In the next column, the date of circumcision is given as 22 October 1895. This is never a birth on 22 September. Lemberg was part of Austria-Hungary at that time, the calendar is Gregorian calender. Aloist (talk) 16:14, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
