Genocide
[edit]Hello @IkuTurisas, regarding your recent edit, does the source concretely state Finnic peoples were to replace the East Slavic population by method of genocide? From what I can access, it says "according to the announcement" (I assume the one mentioned by the committee of inquiry of the Russian Federation). Since the article is paywalled, I can't check the rest of it myself at the moment. Thanks. TylerBurden (talk) 00:58, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, my bad for not being clear with the wording. The Article states that the Finnish activities in East Karelia was a planned genocide against the Russians in the local region by sending them to concentration camps. The policy of the Finnish government in East Karelia was however to later repopulate the area with Finns (or other Finnic peoples) however the article did not mention that. I will mention that claim with a source, as a Finn, it is common knowledge here so i forgot to list the source. IkuTurisas (talk) 15:43, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. TylerBurden (talk) 22:55, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
Redirect Heimoaate to Finno-Ugric peoples
[edit]'Heimoaate' and Pan-Finnicism should be separated from each other. Already during the interwar period 'heimoaate' included not only the Finnic peoples, but Hungarians also, and might be translated as 'Finno-Ugric kinship ideology'. It was of course the motivating idea behind the irredentist ideology of the Greater Finland, but could also take milder forms such as the Finnish volunteer support of the Estonian independence, or a cultural exchange between Hungary and Finland.
In my opinion, a natural place to discuss the idea would be at Finno-Ugric peoples. The kinship ideology explains why such a classification of peoples exists. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 22:50, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- This is true, however I am not sure if it is too major of a difference, as Heimoaate is sometimes referred to as panfennismi, which is a oxymoron in itself as Hungarians aren't Finnic but Ugric, but i digress. But of course, it is a valid point that Hungarians are not Finnic. So do you believe that this page should be removed from the same wikidata point that Heimoaate has? - @Jähmefyysikko Hello, after some looking through sources I've noticed that Pan-Finnicism indeed does reference to Pan-Finno-Ugric thought generally, I must've not noticed this while checking some sources, so a redirect or anything won't be need. Alright sorry for the bother, have a good day. IkuTurisas (talk) 15:18, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for expanding the article! I agree that there is no need to change the redirect anymore. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 06:20, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
