I have removed the stub template from this article, as I feel that this article does not fall in stub class. --Priyanka (talk) 11:17, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note

[edit]

I removed the useless note that "explained" that someone awarded for the United Kingdom is necessarily not an Indian citizen. It makes no sense to add this note to only one case and not use a note template. Why not add this asterisk to Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in the same measure? I know: because it is obvious for him and everyone else, apart from being crudely copied from the press release. Hekerui (talk) 09:13, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The category - Foreigners/ NRIs/ PIOs, applies not just for Padma Vibhushan, but also for Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards, and has been mentioned in the Official government communiqué, cited here: ("This Year's Padma Awards announced" (Press release). Ministry of Home Affairs. 25 January 2010.), which clearly shows a footnote to this effect added to its official listings; personal opinions in that case are of little consequence. The "Note" is hence being readded, and so are asterisks to previous winners. Thanks! --Ekabhishektalk 07:49, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know that press release, I added it to the article. Thanks Hekerui (talk) 11:14, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Madhavan Nair .G. - Karnataka or Kerala?

[edit]

Hi! Madhavan Nair.G. is a person from Kerala [1]. Can we make the necessary edit in the State column? பரிதிமதி 12:30, 14 May 2010 (IST) —Preceding unsigned comment added by பரிதிமதி (talkcontribs)

The state award website notes that he got the Padma Vibhushan for Karnataka and the Padma Bhushan for Kerala. Hekerui (talk) 08:41, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. But isn't it a wrong info? பரிதிமதி (talk) 18:26, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The state column was already removed totally from Bharat Ratna because the award website is not exactly correct sometimes with regard to the states. It may be the case that he was a resident of Karnataka at the time, but that is difficult to verify and not worth the endless changes (not talking about you but a lot of IPs) on the award pages. The individual articles are better suited for residency questions, so I think it would benefit the article if the state column was removed here as well. Hekerui (talk) 19:13, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, the recipient individual's wiki page will contain all the information needed; it is OK to remove the “state ” column.பரிதிமதி (talk) 18:58, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shri Palle Rama Rao incorrectly points to Shri N.T. Rama Rao

[edit]

The link for Shri Palle Rama Rao, who won the Padma Vibhushan for Science, incorrectly points to Shri N.T. Rama Rao. There is also no corresponding page for P. Rama Rao — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.37.244.172 (talk) 20:32, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan should have a line in context before its usage first time. Otherwise it sounds alien. References check out well. --Ekvastra (talk) 05:55, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is the Padma Vibhushan awarded by the President or by the Government of India

[edit]

There have been edits by Ktdk recently claiming that the Padma Vibhushan is 'awarded' by the President of India, however the source he cited merely claims that the award is 'presented' by the President. The source also says the following, "Government has conferred Bharat Ratna Award on 45 persons till date." which alludes to my claim that the President is merely presenting these awards on behalf of the government. Given the importance of this article I deem it necessary to be completely sure about the facts before making any important changes. I hope that editors with prior experience with this topic can help solve this conundrum. Prolix 💬 12:56, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As per official YouTube channel of President of India President is President presenting the awards see the video for some reasons I am unable to provide YouTube linkKtdk (talk) 15:20, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ktdk, I am not disagreeing with the fact that the award is presented by the President of India. The question here is who has the authority to give the award? Like I said, right now it looks to me like the President is presenting the awards on behalf of the government. Prolix 💬 19:07, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sources? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:24, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk, this source says the following

'Government has conferred Bharat Ratna Award on 45 persons till date.'

Prolix 💬 07:48, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Prolix,As per my knowledge Padma committee will be deployed every year to select eligible candidates who are suitable for those awards President of India will give approval for the awards and President of India will give the award Not only the Civilian awards but most awards are awarded by the President of India like Arjun Award Dronacharya award etc Ktdk (talk) 02:19, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Further in the official page of Padma awards a paragraph says the awards are presented by President of India And there is no on behalf of government One para says padma awards are not conferred person who are posthumously But government can consider giving that award to the only persons who are posthumously but award will be given by the President The persons who are alive will be decided by Padma Awards Committee the list will be sent to Prime Minister of India and President of India for further approval Don't forget President is head of our State Ktdk (talk) 02:35, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Coming to Bharat Ratna award you said conferred by the Government but conferred has two meanings one is grant and other is having discussion Ktdk (talk) 02:50, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All the awards given by the President of India are approved by the President I think Bharat Ratna is recommended by the Government to the Prime Minister and then Prime Minister and President will give joint approval Ktdk (talk) 03:28, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ktdk, thank you for your explanation I definitely understand your point of view. Could you provide some sources that back up your points? Prolix 💬 07:56, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Prolix All the awards are approved by President that includes Bharat Ratna [2] Ktdk (talk) 07:58, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

see this source [3] Ktdk (talk) 08:17, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In the above source which I have given One sentence says that Prime Minister of India will recommend to President of India to give Bharat Ratna That means it's upto the President of India to give or not Ktdk (talk) 09:32, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ktdk, the source for the Bharat Ratna is pretty clear. It seems that the President has full authority on that matter. Lets wait for more editors to weigh in on the other awards. Prolix 💬 12:09, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Prolix For Padma Awards Padma Awards Committee will be deployed every year that committee will nominate eligible candidates and the entire list will be sent Prime Minister of India and the President of India for further approval That means a joint approval will be given by the President and prime minister Ktdk (talk) 03:48, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
