Possible grouping or merge

[edit]

The major beer writers, such as Michael Jackson, Roger Protz, David Sutula, Charlie Papazian, Laurie Strachan and Stephen Snyder group the Belgian brown ales with other brown ales, including mild ale. I am wondering if this article should be merged with Brown ale and possibly renamed Brown ales or even Brown beers, and then detail the complex history of brown beers leading into sectioned discussion on the related beer styles such as Oud bruin/Flanders brown ale. I wouldn't agree as these are sour ales we are talking of not brown ales such as the English Browns (includes mild) or even American Brown. They are entirely different. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.249.55 (talk) 01:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Flanders vs. Netherlands

[edit]

Oud bruin in Flanders is not the same beer type as oud bruin in the Netherlands. I think this should be at least mentioned in this article. – Editør (talk) 17:53, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

even the Nederlands article doesn't mention anything but the Belgian style. --Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 05:44, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Many Dutch brewers have an oud bruin variety in their assortment, so it is not just a marginal phenomenon in the Netherlands. – Editør (talk) 10:56, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to rename this article to "Flemish Old Brown (Vlaams Oud Bruin)"

[edit]

I suggest to rename this article to Flemish Old Brown (Vlaams Oud Bruin) as per naming in this authoritive source Alle Belgische Bieren, Ed. Hilde Deweer, Stichting Kunstboek Oostkamp, 2015 ISBN 978-90-5856-526-6, a list complied by Belgian experts in collaboration with the Belgian Brewers Association --DerekvG (talk) 08:55, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
