Did you know... that historically, native mercury was extracted from rocks mined in Idrija by washing them in the stream Nikova?

Interesting:
QPQ: Done.
Overall: @Prodraxis:@A09: The sources look reliable to me even though I read only in English for the most part. Thus, I am also assuming good faith for the hook citation. The only problem is that I think the hook is too verbose. How about this shorter version?
First, thanks for verifying this DYK nomination and I'm looking forward to for this article to finally appear on front page. Eventhough I'm personally fan of nominated text, I understand your comments. IMHO ALT2 is better than ALT1, because every river changes direction, but that's on local level because of erosion (see meander), while Nikova changed course because of geological reasons. I would just comment on two things about ALT2: mercury link should point to mercury (element) and I would add 'natural' as Hg appears as ore and also as a natural metal in droplets. Miners were washing droplets out of the surrounding stone (ore was handled by furnaces). Looking forward to any comments No other objections to ALT2,--A09 (talk) 16:16, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@A09: Great. Ignoring your struck-out words in your last comment above, it looks like you approve of ALT2 as it was written by Prodraxis. With that understanding, I approve this nomination to move forward with the ALT2 hook. Dugan Murphy (talk) 23:14, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
