Nasir-ud-Daulah

  • Article meets the technical requirements. Assuming good faith for the offline sources. No close paraphrasing found, QPQ done. However, the children table lacks a reference, and I feel that the current hook might be too prosaic to be hooky. Perhaps a better hook could be proposed here? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:21, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: The children table has been removed. New hook
I think that's a much better hook. Will try to give this a full review by tomorrow. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:25, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for the delay as I had been caught up in other matters. Anyway, I have two issues at the moment: firstly, the sentence discussing ALT1 lacks a footnote. Secondly, are there more details about this revenue administration system? The sentence that comes after seems to talk more about government administration than the revenue administration. Or was that sentence the one which discussed the revenue administration system? The wording isn't very clear on that. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:53, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: I have now added an inline cite
Comment I know we've moved on from Alt0, but just in case: 'restrained' is probably not the intended word. Refrained? --valereee (talk) 00:19, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee: Probably. I am not a native speaker of English. What I meant that Lord Bentick did not interfere into Hyderabad state during the reign of the Nizam Nasir-ud-daulah. RRD (talk) 09:15, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Royroydeb, 'refrained from interfering', then! He might have 'restrained himself from interfering' also. It's a mistake even native speakers might make. --valereee (talk) 10:59, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think my issue with ALT2 is that it uses simply "Nizam" despite being a relatively unfamiliar word: using the full term "Nizam of Hyderabad" might be a better option here. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 05:07, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have reviewed this nomination. The article is long enough, new enough, QPQ is done, but there are content issues. starship.paint (talk) - last update 00:10, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • ALT3 is apparently sourced to Briggs 2007, p. 114. I have an online preview of Briggs, it's actually a free eBook [1] and I'm reading page 114 and there's no mention of the Berar Province on page 114. It does say "territory ceded by the Nizam in liquidation of these debts" to the British. Please address this Royroydeb. You might have to look through Appendix B from page 381 onwards. This will affect the lede too. starship
I have added one reference. RRD (talk) 09:33, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nizam Afzal-ud-Daulah had sideburns. RRD (talk) 09:33, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hahahahaha that's hilarious. Spot the difference! starship
  • Article: mother was Fazilatunnisa Begum, who was the daughter of a slave. He was given the title Nasir-ud-Daulah by his father Briggs source page 104: mother is Chandee Begum, no other information given. Kasturi source, no such information. This will affect the lede and the infobox too. starship
Fazilatunnisa Begum is the formal name of Chandee Begum. Google books - In the snippet view of "Hyderabad, 400 Glorious Years", it is written "The Nizam permits Chandini Begum entitled Fazilat-unnisa Begum, the mother of Mubarizuddaula to visit the...". Mubarizuddaula i.e. Mubarez-ud-Daulah was the brother of the Nizam. RRD (talk) 09:33, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so I added this source you provided. starship
  • Article: Nasir-ud-Daulah's father Nizam Sikandar Jah died on 21 May 1829. Sourced to Briggs page 104, which does not say that. starship
In the book, it clearly says so. RRD
Okay, so it was the wrong page in the reference and you fixed it. starship
  • Article text: He was born at the Purani Haveli, Hyderabad, in present-day Telangana, India. Article infobox and Kasturi source: he was born in Bidar. Briggs source: no mention. This will affect the infobox. starship
Changed to Bidar. RRD (talk) 09:45, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article: He inherited a financially troubled state because of the irregularities of the prime minister Maharaja Chandu Lal. Your source: Raja Chandulal, who was assistant revenue minister starship
Chandulal was also the prime minister. The Hindu - "Mirji Vicajee making contact with the Hyderabad nobleman Chandu Lal. Sometime in 1835, Pestonji Mirji met the Nizam’s premier Chandu Lal who managed the finances of the princely state.". RRD (talk) 09:45, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So by 1835, Chandu was Prime Minister. But we don't know if by May 1829, when the Nizam inherited the estate, whether Chandu was Prime Minister. starship
  • Article: he ascended the throne of Hyderabad at the Chowmahalla Palace. Infobox: crowned at Chowmahalla Palace. Sourced to Briggs page 104, which does not say that. starship
Removed. RRD (talk) 04:58, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article: The Nizam's debts to the British increased daily. Source, Kate, page 35: Government was becoming heavily indebted to the British. These aren't exactly the same in meaning. starship
Changed. RRD (talk) 04:58, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article: almost the entirety of Beed and Osmanabad districts. Source, Kate, page 36: extensive portions of Bhir and Osmanabad. Again, these aren't the same in meaning, and is Beed really Bhir? starship
Changed. RRD (talk) 04:58, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article: The moneylenders became powerful, which enraged the zamindars (aristocrats) and the large jagirdars. Are you sure this is present in Kate, page 36? starship
Changed. RRD (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article: Prime Minister Siraj-ul-Mulk - Outlook source: does not say Prime Minister. starship
He was the prime minister. Source RRD (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I added that source. starship
  • Article: treaty with The Earl of Dalhousie, the Governor-general of India. Briggs page 114 does not exactly say that the treaty was signed with the Earl. starship
Removed. RRD (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article: Nasir-ud-Daulah appointed some workers of the East India Company as confidential servants to various districts of the state to monitor the activities of revenue officers, to suppress any rebellion - I'm not seeing "workers of the East India Company" and "suppress any rebellion" in Briggs. starship
Briggs p.107 - ".... appoint ameens, or confidential servants of the government.." . Before Government of India Act 1858, India was technically ruled by the East India company. So I think that government refers to that company. RRD (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Could we just write "government workers"? starship
  • Article: The Nizam's Contingent ceased to be a part of the Nizam's army and became an army kept by the British. Briggs page 114 says that the British paid the Nizam's officers, but not what the article said. starship
Removed. RRD (talk) 16:15, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article: died at the Manjli Begum ki Haveli at Hyderabad - this isn't in the British Library source. I have a limited access to Nizam-British Relations, 1724–1857, but this source did state his date of death without stating his place of death. ... Nawab Nasir-ud-Daula died on the 16th May 1857. During the course of his long reign Nawab Nasir-ud-Daula seemed to have realised the futility of trying to resist the British. So he advised Nawab Afzal-ud-Daula, prior to his death, to adhere to the British alliance. This will affect the infobox. starship
Place of death removed. For date of death, refer this. RRD (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Lede: princely state of British India - this isn't in the body, needs a source starship
Added reference. RRD (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Great :) starship
  • Infobox: Consort Dilwarunnisa Begum - this needs a source starship
Done. RRD (talk) 17:11, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Good, I suggest you should write this in the article body too, about his two nikkah wives. starship
  • Infobox: Issue Jahangir Ali Khan - this needs a source starship
Removed. RRD (talk) 16:15, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Infobox: Nasir-Ud-Daulah Asaf Jah IV - that contradicts with the lede Mir Farqunda Ali Khan Siddiqi Asaf Jah lV starship
Corrected. RRD (talk) 16:15, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Infobox: Religion Islam - this needs a source starship
The Nizam was buried in a mosque. RRD (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Royroydeb: - please address the content issues in the body above. starship.paint (talk) 06:42, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I need to re-read the sources and will reply soon. RRD (talk) 15:08, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Starship.paint: . RRD (talk) 17:11, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I totally missed your 26 July message. This will be a priority on-wiki for me. starship.paint (talk) 23:37, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Royroydeb: - three issues left, see above. Chandu, government workers and nikkah. Please ping me once you're done. starship.paint (talk) 02:08, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Starship.paint: Done. RRD (talk) 16:16, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

good to go. All content issues settled. The article is long enough, new enough, QPQ is done. Also, the image is fine. ALT1 is my preferred hook, it's cited and interesting. Good work improving the article. starship.paint (talk) 00:09, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The pictures of Nasir and Afzal are the same, which one is it? 146.200.7.75 (talk) 16:29, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
