Continuously Edit-Warring on Mustafa Ali's nativity and nationality
[edit]Since the page was created, there's a currently an edit war that Ali is Indian replacing word Pakistani/Pakistani to Indian/India continuously happening an edit war. INDIA PAKISTAN INDIA PAKISTAN. WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A INDEPENDENT WAR ZONE THAT AN EDIT CONFLICT COULD OCCUR. Mustafa Ali displayed Pakistani flag as given below:
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Broken nutshell (talk • contribs) 14:45, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
You can see the WWE logos Watermarked and even Pakistani Flags there. That is the Proof that Ali is not an Indian he is Pakistani American. and One more thing, Pakistan is not a state or province of India. Pakistan is also a country i.e. why it has Flag, Pakistan and India is different thing not a same thing. Pakistan is completely different from India.
for the pictures, I Respect the copyright owners of these pictures, My purpose of posting is to proof his state nationality representation but not to violate any copyright. Once Issue resolved, Image will be removed.

Sportskeeda article from Oct 19th 2018, where he states he's of mixed Indo-Pak descent. Does this end the debate once and for all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.112.165.89 (talk) 11:07, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Regarding usage of "Hidden Texts" and removal of uncited information.
Copied from User talk:Broken nutshell#April 2018
- This is not how Hidden Texts are to be used. You can't just tell others not to edit an article or claim ownership to an article. See WP:INVISIBLE.
- The subject of the article is of "Pakistani descent" alright. That can be proven with the citation provided. If anybody changes that you can outright revert it. I'll change the "comments" as per Wiki guidelines.
- These following lines are not supported by any of the citations. So they'll be removed for now and in future can be added back with valid sources.
His parents are from Karachi, Pakistan.
- Source mentions his Pakistani descent but nothing about Karachi.During his debut in the Cruiserweight Classic, it was stated by Daniel Bryan that Ali has experience as a local police officer for the area of Chicago that he resides in.
He is married and has 2 children; a daughter and son.
Requested move 2 December 2018

Disambiguate. There is a clear consensus that the status quo should change in some manner, but an absence of consensus on the direction that change should take. Having looked further into the matter, I have found that there are several other potential topics that would go on a disambiguation page, including Mustafa Abu Ali, a Malayan politician, and a 1953 New Year Honours winner of the Colonial Police Medal. Although these are comparatively minor, they left the title out of being a WP:TWODABS situation. I also note that Ali Mustafa is a disambiguation page, and that there is a possibility of confusion with names having components that can serve as both given names and surnames. bd2412 T 18:25, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
Mustafa Ali (wrestler) → Mustafa Ali – Move over redirect. APM (talk) 10:00, 2 December 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. JC7V (talk) 03:44, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). DBigXrayᗙ 10:31, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
- Comment Mustafa Ali currently points to Mustafa Âlî, this request was brought up on WP:RMT, I think this needs to be discussed.--DBigXrayᗙ 10:31, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, but the page for the Ottoman historian was moved back in 2010 to the correct spelling, and the only other article that is similar to the name of the wrestler is the name of an Azerbaijani village. APM (talk) 12:31, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support. The wrestler is the clear WP:primary topic (pageviews). Add a hatnote pointing to the 16th century figure. Station1 (talk) 19:28, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose while the wrestler might get more page views today, the 16th century writer is clearly the better known figure. Let's not play into recency bias.---00:41, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
- Not just today or recently; the article was created almost 2 years ago and has had more views from the day it was created, well over 95% on average.[1] - Station1 (talk) 06:53, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
- Neutral: how about creating a disambiguation page at the basename of "Mustafa Ali"? That way there's no primary topic swap. Paintspot Infez (talk) 01:24, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
- Neutral: Yes, better to create a disambiguation page. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:08, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support per WP:Primary topic. The pageviews speak for themselves. JTP (talk • contribs) 13:33, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support there is a clear primary topic here, and it is the wrestler, and has been for 2 years. This is not recentism. No need to skirt the issue. Since there appear to be 2 articles with ambiguous titles, create a DAB page at Mustafa Ali (disambiguation). MegaSloth (talk) 12:43, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support: Per Station1; clearly the primary topic here. Gotitbro (talk) 03:03, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- Neutral - Make "Mustafa Ali" a disambiguation page. Keep the "(wrestler)" qualifier unchanged. Hansen SebastianTalk 01:36, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support: Mustafa Ali, the wrestler, is clearly far more well known than the one from the 16th century. Not to mention almost certainly what people are looking for when they search the name. 69.29.211.158 (talk) 03:07, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Simple Reason - To avoid another person named Mustafa Ali, but do create a "Mustafa Ali" as a disambiguation page. Colton Meltzer (talk) 04:11, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - Make Mustafa Ali, on its own, a disambiguation page while keeping the "(wrestler)" qualifier for the wrestler. 111.68.115.165 (talk) 07:05, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support: The truth of the matter is that almost nobody is going to be searching for the historian, and the data supports this. The wrestler is clearly the WP:primary topic (pageviews) MarioFan78 (talk) 18:15, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose but support a dab page. Wikipedia is supposed to represent a worldwide view and isn't bound by WP:RECENTISM. Bill O'Reilly (political commentator) has a disambigulator because an Australian sportsman whose heyday was eight decades ago could also have claims to be WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the Bill O'Reilly name.LM2000 (talk) 10:17, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support - He is a the primary topic and any confusion can easily be fixed with a hat-note. - Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 13:53, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Origin
[edit]Fylindfotberserk Regarding the reliability of the source, I thought at first glance the title is misleading since he clearly is not a Pakistani wrestler (he is American of coruse). I guess it's unfortunate. Ikhtiar H (talk) 18:28, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Ikhtiar H: That's why the whole source content need to be read properly especially if coming from a reliable source like Express Tribune. More so since his 'Pakistani origin' is kinda well known. Secondly, titles or snapshots, a lot of time do not disambiguate things like ethnicity, nationality, etc. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:41, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Ikhtiar H: @Fylindfotberserk: It's true that he is not Pakistani Wrestler but it's clear even at Al-Jazeera that he is first WWE wrestler of Pakistani Descent, The Indo-Pak thing was clearly discussed before, let's take a look at family cycles and life before/after marriage. Listen up: Ali's father was born in Karachi, okay? and Mother is from New Delhi get it?, Mother married to father then migrated to Pakistan. Get it?, then Parents migrated to the United States before the birth of Mustafa Ali. Look at my self, My mother was born in Dhaka, East Pakistan in 1960 which is now Bangladesh, and my father was born in Karachi, my Grandmother was born in Shimla before the partition of Pakistan, My mother migrated to Karachi Pakistan before her marriage, and I was born in 1997 in Karachi, but I call myself Pakistani(not Bengali or Bangladeshi). Hey, I found another example of Mix of Indo-Pak, See India's RAW Star Ex-Contestant Jeffrey Iqbal, he is also the same thing, He says He is originally from Newark, Delaware. My father, born in Gujarat, India, and mother, born in Karachi, Pakistan, moved to the United States decades ago per this. another example I've provided. The article writer at Express Tribune is Rahul Aijaz Whom I know well and have contact with, he also watches WWE(dont know if he watch alot or not) and writes articles about WWE. I have contact with Rahul Aijaz via twitter, I hope he reply me, once he replies then we decide to work according to it(by finding WP:RS) what he says and what he feels, I had recent tweets to Rahul Aijaz regarding WWE and Professional Wrestling and he replied me too. 103.18.20.255 (talk) 11:10, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- Ethnicity/Nationality in Wikipedia BLP articles require self identification and in this reliable Mid Day article the subject clearly says he is half-Indian, so I've included that. In dailypakistan source, Mustafa Ali said his mother is from New Delhi, India which was edited into the article without any mention of him being part Indian. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:34, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- And What about being the first WWE Wrestler who showed Pakistan Flag at the time of Debut during his loss at Cruiserweight Classics? 103.18.20.255 (talk) 11:49, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think the flag thing is relevant at all. What good could it make? Wrestlers carrying flags can be significant sometimes if it's part of the storyline. Look at Rusev (wrestler). I am pretty sure he was the first person carry Bulgarian flag but that's not important. Please check WP:PW/MOS and WP:PW/Sources for more understanding. The result of the move request was: Moved — Amakuru (talk) 18:49, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
– Last discussed in 2018. The pageviews show the wrestler as a clear primary topic. The dabpage lists two other articles, Mustafa Âlî and Mustafa Abu Ali, neither of which are an exact title match for "Mustafa Ali". See WP:SMALLDETAILS. 162 etc. (talk) 16:12, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose: Actually, the dab page lists five other articles, not two – subtopics count too. Practically everyone whose native language is English (and probably a lot of others) would omit diacritics when looking for Mustafa Âlî here. And WP:RECENTISM seems like a big factor in page views for the wrestler, who is likely to be largely forgotten within a decade. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:03, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support per longer-term pageviews [2]. The wrestler is overwhelmingly the primary topic by usage. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 15:24, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- Support The solution most beneficial for readers -- the overwhelming majority of whom, for 5 years now, have been seeking this page -- is to make the proposed move, with the hatnote easily directing users looking for one of the names with diacritics to their intended page.--Yaksar (let's chat) 20:56, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- Support per Shhhnotsoloud. Clearly primary topic. Sekyaw (talk) 15:06, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Comment I moved Mustafa Âlî to Mustafa Ali (historian) per preponderance of sources. I'm reluctant to support this RM, since the wrestler is destined to fail the WP:10YEARS test unlike the historian (and therefore, WP:PTOPIC#2). But then, Wikipedia is work in progress, and we can move the dab page back when he falls into oblivion; until then, panem et circenses. No such user (talk) 12:28, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
