Louisgcoolguy (talk) 01:03, 20 May 2019 (UTC) MrBeast did not miss "50,282 or 50,295." He re-counts it later in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWcldHxHFpo "Counting To 100,000 In One Video" 10:02:05 Please remove those numbers. He also misses "81,947" at 17:19:47 and "99,932" at 23:46:08. He also misses a set of numbers rnging from "99,935" - "99,944" because he miscounts it at 23:46:12. He also misplaces "99,757" by saying "99,707" and misplaces "99,916", "99,917" and "99,918" with "99,516","99,517", and "99,518".

Thank you Louis Garnier Louisgcoolguy (talk) 01:03, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Partly done: I've removed the 50,282 and 50,295 as those aren't listed in the source in the article. We generally prefer secondary sources rather than the video itself, so I haven't implemented the rest of the request. If you can provide a reliable source explicitly stating that he missed the others as well, please do so here and re-open this request by changing "|answered=yes" to "|answered=no". Media Reception - "Supposedly Homophobic"

The use of the phrase "supposedly homophobic tweets" in the "Media Reception" section of this page simultaneously repeats a judgment-based statement, then uses another judgment based-statement to undermine it.

I believe the more responsible and Wikipedian choice would be to remove that part entirely and instead emphasize this public figure's actions, allowing people to make their own judgment call. So it would go from reading:

`In May 2018, Donaldson was criticized by Taylor Lorenz of The Atlantic for his supposedly homophobic tweets that contained slurs like "fag" and using the word "gay" pejoratively.[11] He responded by stating that "I’m not offensive in the slightest bit in anything I do."`

To reading:

`In May 2018, Donaldson was criticized by Taylor Lorenz of The Atlantic for tweets that contained potentially homophobic slurs like "fag" and using the word "gay" pejoratively.[11] He responded by stating that "I’m not offensive in the slightest bit in anything I do."`

Thoughts? I'll make this edit within the next week or two if I don't see objection.

Please add the final paragraph under Content And Style.

Donaldson channel also includes videos under the title of ″Last To Leave″ series, which cameos his crew members, as well as other strangers and friends. They compete in themed endurance tests to win cash prizes, with a concluded total of 14 videos in this series. The final video in this series was a five video special and had a prize pool of 1 million dollars in cash.

Homophobia thing

The Homophobia thing seems out of place of the page, it is very short and it just seems to be sourcing some biased news guy anyways, so can we remove that, or atleast make it into a "controversy" section, and also clarify if MrBeast apologized for those dumb tweets he made when he was a kid.HuyyBoii 05 (talk) 01:12, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi @HuyyBoii 05: Minor talk pages don’t usually get much traffic. I recommend asking at a page such as the Teahouse or the help desk, or starting a RFC. I’m neutral on the matter; I believe this was removed a few months ago then readded by another user, I trimmed the wording on it to make it less biased. SK2242 (talk) 01:50, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Purchase of a private island

Since the article is locked, and I couldn‘t update and edit the latest regarding MrBeast activities, I‘ll encourage an editor to do so via the talk page.

On August 13th he announced that he had recently purchased an island just off the coast of the Bahamas. A clip that announced the purchase along with a visit of the island was uploaded the same day (and had garnered over 20 million views by August 15th). The purchase was also revealed on his twitter account.

The island is roughly the size of 4 American football fields and is uninhabited, the name under which it has been listed is „Golding Cay Island“, and the price of purchase was $730,000.

Is MrBeast really a "philanthropist"?

I doubt it can be said that MrBeast is a philanthropist.

  • There are no reliable sources that link MrBeast with philanthropy. This article in The Atlantic does use the term philanthropist, but in quotes, to say that this is how he is known by Youtubers, which does not say much.
  • His acts of generosity seem to me entirely motivated by the desire to get 'views' for his video. He profits directly from these acts. They are not disinterested gestures, they are his stock-in-trade.
  • Even if it were established that he accomplishes generous, disinterested acts, I fail to see how that qualifies him as a philanthropist, literally someone who loves humanity, like Warren Buffet or Bill Gates.

I suggest removing the phrase "and philanthropist" from the article. Best, --Jeran Renz (talk) 16:01, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Edit: I modified the page myself. Feel free to discuss the matter here, of course. --Jeran Renz (talk) 13:08, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

Jeran, just think for a moment, if he didn't get money from these videos, he wouldn't be able to help not even one percent of the people he's helped until now. Might I remember you he wasn't rich before creating the channel. He became rich doing these very uncommon videos, so is that really a bad thing? Why isn't he a phillantropist for gaining money for helping many people? Isn't helping those people his merit? Why shouldn't he be rewarded for helping people? Jimmy has proved people can thrive in youtube doing good things and used the money from his own growth in youtube to grow even more and, in the way, helped many people. What is a phillantropist? Jimmy says he is really happy for helping people and he has done it many times, why isn't he one? Isn't that loving people and, therefore, loving humanity itself? Source of wealth?

Shouldn't this article mention why he is able to spend such extremely large sums of money for donations? Is his YouTube channel that profitable? I have no idea how much money one can make on YouTube, is it really enough to enable him to regularly give away hundreds of thousands of dollars? Or does he have other sources of income, an inheritance or something? Gestumblindi (talk) 19:49, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Jimmy Donaldson is most commonly referred to as Mr. Beast, he is world know youtube. Jimmy's net is worth over 15 million pounds (dollars, quid). he gives away loads of money to subscribers and he loves protecting the environment. Mr Beast has started a collaboration with millions of YouTubers, such as AzzyLand, DanDTM, Tommyinnit, etc... to clean the seas they are planning to get rid of 30,000 lbs of trash (rubbish) from the sea and beaches. Jimmy is also doing another collaboration but this time with trees he wants to plant at least 20,000 trees. Change "... cash prize without the bleak violence the show portrayed." to "... cash prize by recreating the games that the characters of the show played." BOOM 06:07, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Removed "bleak" for neutrality; the word "recreate" is already in the sentence and doesn't need to be repeated. Squid Game is indisputably violent, and the ref mentions this.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 07:50, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Change his name back from James Steven Donaldson to Jimmy Donaldson. I don't see a reliable source that supports this unless such reliable source added it in error and then edited it back; it was probably a hoax. 209.52.88.69 (talk) 16:26, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Also, a section should be added on MrBeast saying the n word (while mispronouncing niggardly). 209.52.88.69 (talk) 16:33, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
Partly done: Reverting name back to Jimmy Donaldson as there's no WP:RS for James Steven Donaldson. Not making a section about the n word incident unless more reliable independent coverage is provided. Qwaiiplayer (talk) 19:27, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

New "Business venture": Feastables

On YouTube, he just mentioned it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=252&v=3jS_yEK8qVI&feature=youtu.be

Here is the official site dedicated to/for it: https://feastables.com/

Here are some sources/sites about it: https://www.fastcompany.com/90717120/mrbeast-feastables-chocolate-bars-willy-wonka-million-sweepstakes https://finance.yahoo.com/news/mrbeast-launches-better-snacking-brand-210000758.html https://twitter.com/MrBeast/status/1487531928655855616?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

No doubt there will be more sites and mentions about it. Just giving you all a heads up. When does it go in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6011:9600:52C0:D527:C20A:E4DE:52F9 (talk) 23:55, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Jimmy's full name is "James Stephen Donaldson." This is a confirmed fact from multiple trusted sources. 2601:743:281:9E80:9426:8847:50E9:B8BC (talk) 22:48, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Not done: James Steven (not Stephen) Donaldson is actually a citogenesis incident where many reliable sources copied information (Yahoo! Sports did that in an article about the Squid Game recreation) originally added to Wikipedia here and here. Most sources historically still report his name as Jimmy Donaldson and a redirect page to MrBeast from James Steven Donaldson was never created before the hoax was removed. 207.81.187.41 (talk) 08:03, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

No mention of his influence

There is a section called "Public image" at the article, but given that so many people marveling at/trying to copy/aspired to be like him, I am kinda surprised that there is no mention of these phenomenons. What are your thoughts? CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 05:01, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

If you can find enough coverage of this phenomenon in independent reliable sources, then you could add it yourself. Qwaiiplayer (talk) 13:20, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
