Could I query a couple of the terms used, for example, mental defectives and clients in the following sentence? By the mid-19th century in England, the Alleged Lunatics' Friend Society was proclaiming that the new moral treatment was just a new form of repression achieved by mildness, coaxing and solitary confinement; that its emphasis on re-education meant it treated people like children or mental defectives; and that it failed to properly involve clients in decisions about their care. Did ALFS actually use those terms? If not, are they the best translation of what they did use?81.102.15.200 (talk) 12:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I think both terms could be altered. It's the author in the cited article that's discussing their views and only rarely quoting unfortunately. The former term might be better represented as "incapable" and the latter I guess just "patients" although I understood the point of at least some asylums, including the Retreat, was that they weren't hospitals as such. Btw in the other bit in the article, "meek existence" was meant to stand for what they are quoted as saying - "milk sop existence" - but didn't seem clear what the latter meant (but maybe should add the quote too). I propose someone reads the following articles, which all contain duplicate content, and include information relevant in each of them:

In particular, I think the following figures are mentioned in some, and not others, and should be considered for mention in each:
