Sir?

[edit]

I don't know much about this: The article starts with "Sir Michael Parkinson, CBE...", but the linked article Order of the British Empire says only GBE and KBE/DBE are entitled to use "Sir" before their name, not CBE. Isn't this a contradiction? What's the real state of affairs here? Shreevatsa (talk) 07:15, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's in the article...
Parkinson was made a Knight Bachelor in the 2008 New Year's Honours List; he remarked that he was "not the type to get a knighthood" coming as he did "from Barnsley. They give it to anyone nowadays." (Source)

He was awarded a CBE before he got the knighthood. Ollieisanerd (talkcontribs) 16:26, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Michael Parkinson was born in cudworth, BARNSLEY, South Yorkshire!

West ridings isn’t a real county or sub-county. Yorkshire is compromised of South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and East Ridings.

Please correct this. It’s almost as if people are ashamed to admit he’s from barnsley. 77.103.181.123 (talk) 18:25, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life, illness and death

[edit]

There has been a slow-burning edit war concerning this heading in the article, and whether it should be truncated. Please discuss the heading here, rather then reverting in the article. WWGB (talk) 03:39, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Personally - I think that all Wikipedia articles about people should have just "Personal life" and then add "illness & death" within that article.

However would go with the consensus.

Just "Personal life" or "Personal life and illness" is information enough. "Personal life, illness and death" is just excessive and redundant. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 18:15, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
