The result of the move request was: Moved to MatPat, how he is known and not now opposed (OP put speedy on MatPat redirect). Fences&Windows 17:12, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Matthew Patrick (internet personality)Matthew Patrick – No reason to add "(internet personality)" to end of the title, plus, Matthew Patrick redirects to here. 【Zagexma】 18:19, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

No objection to that In ictu oculi (talk) 18:26, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose, or move to MatPat, whichever is better supported by a proper WP:COMMONNAME analysis, which has not been presented. Default to Matthew Patrick, per MOS:TM, etc., absent convincing common-name proof for the nickname, and evidence that he's primarily known by this nick in all contexts to which his notability relates. Regardless, I see no case that this "personality" is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, so the politician should probably be moved back to the base name, or have it be a disambiguation page if there are three or more of these guys.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  08:11, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

  • Support - Game Theory was created by MatPat and doesn't need its own separate page. The ideas should be expanded upon on this page and it can be done easily with the merging of the two articles. Epicandrew1220 (talk) 16:11, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

New article request

Shouldn't the MarioPlex part of this article also have a main article? SapphireArte (talk) 21:09, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

MarioPlex and Pollen tournament

Both of these sections are unsourced, and don't seem to be particularly needed in an encyclopedia entry about someone. I could understand the Mario section a bit more, but surely we need proof that it's a recognised number, rather than just something that MatPat made up, and is added in for no reason. Lee Vilenski(talk) 21:16, 19 December 2017 (UTC) Lee Vilenski(talk) 21:16, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Article seems to be written by someone connected to the subject

For example, consider this paragraph from the Game Theorists section:

Smash History (August 26, 2014 – July 23, 2016) was a show by Drake McWhorter that focused on the development and content of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. According to McWhorter, the show was cancelled because "it's not as high quality, the Smash hype is dead, and it's not an educational show."[18] In early November 2016 all episodes were made private and McWhorter himself did not know the reason for this.[19] Because of this, he started to upload the series on his channel Trailer Drake on November 9, 2016.

The section goes into too much detail, doesn't seem very notable, has a direct inline quote, and isn't written from a neutral point of view, and the writing style is more akin to something written by an employee or fan than anything encyclopedic. The entire article has similar problems.

Additionally, there seems to be someone editing Wikipedia articles related to MatPat from a biased perspective. For example, the Notable People section of Buies Creek, North Carolina lists Matthew Patrick's wife as "Stephanie Patrick, Youtube Personality and co-founder of Theorist Inc", which is...neither a neutral nor a natural way of putting it. I've now edited it to "Stephanie Patrick, YouTuber", but I actually removed the line entirely at first, because his wife didn't seem notable enough to merit a line. But a few days later, the line was reinserted by an anonymous editor with the edit message "added Stephanie Patrick famous youtube to notable people".

Given the odd phrasing, I'm pretty certain someone connected to MatPat is editing Wikipedia articles related to him, and that this article and other articles should be rechecked and cleaned up. cnte (talk) 20:47, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi cnte, I added the parts about the shows on the channel. I added the quote as an explanation of the situation which shows Patrick rather in a bad light. Please explain to me why this is not a neutrally written paragraph, so I can avoid missteps like this in the future.
As for the addition in the Buies Creek article, according to WikiBlame, Mrs Patrick was first added in April of 2017 by an IP user ("An Internetainer in GTLive on YouTube"). The odd phrasing started with an addition in September of 2017 by an IP user ("cofounder of Theriost Media and cohost of the YouTube channel GTlive"). It was again added by an IP user in March of 2018 ("Youtube Personality and co-founder of Theorist Inc").
One member of the GTLive team, "Ctheorist" actually made edits in the article in February of 2017 as well as in April of 2017. --Adrio (talk) 08:07, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

High amount of content removed by a single user

On 3 October 2019, user Drmies removed about 20,000 characters of content from this article (Link). I wrote a big part of the lists they removed, and I'm not completely sure why they removed most of the content. Edit notes include things like "rm a list of trivia sourced to Twitter" and "less trivia, more secondary sources". Why was it removed, and would a citation needed template not have sufficed for most of it? Since I don't want to just re-insert that much text that was deleted without proper discussion, I'll post about it here. What should stay removed, and what should again become part of the article? Regards, Adrio (talk) 19:13, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

If the only sources that can be found for the information are things like Twitter and YouTube, then it is probably giving undue weight to the content. That's a separate issue from the fact that Wikipedia requires high standards of sourcing for content on living people. Things like social media and self-published youtube videos normally fail our sourcing standards for most any information, not even accounting for the higher standard required for living people. GMGtalk 19:25, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, User:GreenMeansGo. Adrio, I did in fact place a number of "citation needed" tags; I could have removed a lot more. What I did remove was material that wasn't just improperly sourced, but also excessive and really promotional. We don't need trivia in the first place, even if it is somehow verified. What can be restored is material that is not just verified but also proven relevant by secondary sources that are reliable and independent. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 21:39, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi Drmies, that makes sense. It was just that I checked on the article and was confused that so much stuff, especially about the series by other creators published on his channels, had been removed. But since most of those haven't had any coverage by major sources about them, it makes sense to leave them out. Maybe at some point these series rise to the prominence required to be added into the article. However, I consider the information about the channel's viewer demographics and their child's name and date of birth important, but those can probably never be cited with a non-self-published source. Should it still be left out? Thanks for your answer. Adrio (talk) 16:19, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

In the Channels table you wrote that Lee Collins is the one in charge of Film Theory since 2024, however Lee himself asked to change that to Forrest Lee, because that's the name he goes by professionally, you can actually confirm this if you're quick enough in Lee's Instagram stories 2806:2F0:9181:AA97:AE4E:65FF:FE8B:F240 (talk) 03:05, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Fixing an incorrect number

Change "he made 67 theory videos" to "he made 68 theory videos".

The video referenced to state that there are 67 Five Nights at Freddy's theories is technically a Five Nights at Freddy's theory video and therefore it should be changed to 68 videos instead of 67.

This video was used to say that there are 67 FNAF theories on his channel, however the video also states that it itself is a FNAF theory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL6mCZtaHLQ 03:31, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Obbydobby (talk)
