Surname/Article Title: Eydelshteyn

[edit]

So everywhere I'm looking nowadays, as I chronically follow the Oscars each year, I'm seeing his name continually utilizing the spelling of Eydelshteyn, as it was originally when he was acting in Russian films. These instances include digital media interviews, Oscar buzz journalism, film festival reporting, his own social media, and I believe I saw Neon's FYC for this film—but I'm not 100% on that last one, because I may be conflating that with a few other FYC ads from studios. Regardless, they've all been relatively unanimous.

My question here is this: Should his main article name be listed as Eydelshteyn, not Eidelstein then? I think it should reflect what the man/actor is opting to use, and thus far, all evidence points to the 'y':

I agree. Per WP:COMMONNAME, there's a strong argument that the page should be moved to Mark Eydelshteyn, with Mark Eidelstein probably redirecting to Mark Eydelshteyn. See WP:OFFICIAL for detailed explanation of the policy. Motjustescribe (talk) 23:05, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad you agree. And thanks for those policy page links. I think they support the case. IMDb (which matched Wikipedia last month) has now reverted back to Eydelshteyn as well. His socials list him that way, and I think the ultimate source might be if the SAG Awards nominate Anora for Best Ensemble Cast, which is probable. --Cinemaniac86TalkStalk 18:56, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mark EidelsteinMark Eydelshteyn – Nearly all major media coverage spells the actor's name as Mark Eydelshteyn. It's almost more difficult to find his name spelled as Mark Eidelstein, as he himself does not write his name that way. Per WP:COMMONNAME, the article should be moved to the more common Mark Eydelshteyn. Motjustescribe (talk) 02:12, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
