I removed the section referring to the MA Obstacle Course - it was deleted per WP policies. If the page is recreated and proves to have a lasting impact, we can look at bringing it back to this page. Cuffeparade (talk) 00:23, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Curriculum

[edit]

I feel like there is a lot of back and forth edit-warring brewing on this section. There are a number of statements on the page now that sorely need some supporting evidence, and I wish that the editors making these changes would contribute to this Talk page about what they have edited. I'm going to keep an eye on this section and won't simply let people remove fact or citation tags because they find them inconvenient. Please editors come on to this Talk page, or at least provide support for the edits that you do make. Cuffeparade (talk) 01:48, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added a paragraph to this section about non-traditional learning. I tried to be pretty conservative and source all of my statements, but I think that Marin Academy needed to have its curriculum reflected in more than the student-teacher ratio. My next goal is to put up some more information about some of the programs that the school puts on annually (litfest, conference on democracy, lectures, arts programs) that are noteworthy. I noticed during this update that the MA Voice's website has been updated, which will hopefully continue to be the case and provide a much-needed new venue for fresh information about the school. I added a link to the Voice page in the External Links section, along with a few other useful ones I found. Cuffeparade (talk) 09:39, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am starting to feel like the Curriculum Section is looking more like an advertisement for the academic competitiveness of the school. I am not going to try and start another tussle over the content, but I am proposing that we move the bulk of that first paragraph in the Curriculum section into the Academics section, since it appears to be a better fit in that area anyways (the percentage of faculty that hold an advanced degree doesn't really have anything to do with the school's curriculum, for instance). I'm gonna make the change in a few days unless somebody opposes that idea and comments here. Cuffeparade (talk) 21:47, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your proposed changes. Most of the information in the first paragraph in the curriculum section belongs in the academics section. I have made those changes. Feel free to move anything back to the curriculum section if I have made any errors. Cunard (talk) 22:06, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archive

[edit]

This talk page has been quiet for some time now (no posts in 2007), and the page was getting unwieldy (as well as deviating from some of the rules for talk pages), so I decided to archive it. Cuffeparade 10:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have made another archive of the conversations from 2007, however I left all of the 2008 discussions on this front page. Cuffeparade (talk) 01:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Alumni

[edit]

So I feel like I'm talking to myself here, but I am going to remove some of the people listed under notable alumni if they cannot be shown to be notable. If you look in the archive there was some discussion of this before that I was involved in and people who did not have WP pages of their own, or other significant notability will be removed. Feel free, of course, to bring up relevant information to establish their significance, but please don't just revert because you want to be included on a WP page. Cuffeparade (talk) 21:17, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good work Cuffeparade. Looks nice. What about the Waverly guys for notable alumni? They're relatively successful directors, and the production company they created has worked with several notable bands. Also, they had one of the longest running Channel 102 shows (longest running?). Cuttycuttiercuttiest (talk) 21:31, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and made some removals, including our persistent inventor of the rubber pencil. I also added Nic Sheff, whose recently published memoir has been getting lots of press (see the LA Times article I linked), and Christopher Ford, as I discovered there is in fact already a WP page for Waverly Films, so that fits the criteria for notability here. Cuffeparade (talk) 16:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed Matt Reagan from the list of notable alumni. According to the criteria described above, as well as the ruling WP criteria for notability, he does not qualify. If anyone can find evidence of notability (beyond a self-published MySpace profile page), then I would be happy to put him back in the list. Please post here before reverting. Academics?

[edit]

I find it interesting, as a recent (2005) alumnus who was somewhat dispirited by the school's increasing athletic bent - but still quite satisfied by the academics - about a certain glaring aspect of this article. There is a prevalent and exhaustively-researched section for "Athletics", yet, although this article is about an academic institution, none for "Academics". Other than the obvious response of "start the section yourself", can anyone explain the woeful lack of academic information in this article?o0O [GUTH3] O0o (talk) 09:15, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say that there's definitely worthwhile academic material to cover - most notably LitWeek and the Democracy conferences that the school has begun to hold annually. I guess the problem probably comes from the fact that there is not likely to be as much external material to support the notability of MA's academics as there is for the sports, since local newspapers like the Marin IJ report on the prep sports every day but the academics much less frequently. If you can find some of that material, then by all means post it up there. By the way, if you happen to come across it, I've been looking for an essay that Tony Krakeler (sp? - the former admissions director) wrote in the Wildcatter some years ago that talked a lot about the 'increasing athletic bent' that you talk about that would be a useful document to include in the article. It would also have the happy benefit of removing that last niggling citation required tag from the page! Cuffeparade (talk) 19:50, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

Following a request for article re-assessment I am giving this article B / Mid. This is following a review of the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria: 1) The article is quite well referenced, with lots of in-line citations. Some gaps but this is acceptable for B-class. 2) Covers the just enough topics for B-class, key stuff is there, but more on history might be good. 3) Article is reasonably well structured, but the pictures might need to be moved around a bit so text is not squashed between them and the infobox. 4) Article is reasonably well written, strict WP:MOS compliance will be required for higher article ratings however. 5) Article has an infobox, pictures, and a logo as required. 6) No obviously inappropriate content. I am giving the article mid importance for its alumni, and for being quite well known. Camaron | Chris (talk) 15:49, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
