Magna, Templeborough and Jesus
[edit]Were the authors aware that in about 30CE Jesus was crucified under the Fourth Cohort of Gauls, and that the same cohort was stationed here not 20 years later? Is there any memorial to this fact? Many of the soldiers would still have been in service. 15:17, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- The article on Cohors IV Gallorum equitata mentions nothing of being stationed in Judea in the early 1st century AD, and in fact says that it was not referred to until 75AD. Although we are not supposed to use wikipedia itself as a source, google searches back this up [1] [2]. It appears to be purely conjecture and unless someone can provide a source I shall remove the claim from the Templeborough article. Also, the duration of service in the Roman army (both legionaries and auxiliaries) was 25 years. The tile with the cohors IV stamp dates to the late 1st century AD, by that time it's unlikely anyone would remain from around 30AD. Nev1 (talk) 17:05, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
