Typical of Wikipedia... data's crap

They say according to WB madonn'a sold roughly 200m albums.. Well, according to BOTH WB and the IFPI she sold MORE than 200m BEFORE Confessions on a Dancefloor (that meand at least 215m albums now. AT LEAST).

Then they use unsubstantiated threads from anonymous forum posts to put data in!111

Lounge Album

I want to know where the supposed Lounge album comes in to play. My Paradise: The Lounge Album, released in 2007 apparently, consists of several remixes and a couple untouched songs.

Clearly these aren't some fan made remixes, since I know Stereo MCs, William Orbit, and Groove Armada are well known artists. The cover art (which I can post up if requested) seems pretty legit to me.

Fake - The Lounge Album

This album is a fan-made Fake! Do Not Add. It is not an official Madonna release, it is a torrent made by a fan. Even though some tracks are authentic remixes, this has been compiled by someone other than Madonna, Warner Bros. Records or Warner Music Group. JWAD (talk)

THE ALBUMS SECTION

I would like to propose that we change the Madonna's Albums Discography to one big album chart with all the albums in order, to provide readers with a linear representation of her history. Currently, the albums are all scattered out, and it can be very confusing to get what Madonna's popularity was like at a certain time. This has already been successfully used in Mariah Carey albums discography and it is proving to be quite helpful. HardCandy08 (talk) 19:44, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

answer: I disagree. There need to be a structure so it'll be easier for the reader to follow and search for a particular item. There have already been requests for the albums to be categorized and it's just too much for the eye to have them all in one box and the result is messy.

I am in VERY VERY VERY strong support of this idea. I strongly disagree that it would make the table messier. I mean, you don't need to seperate the singles do you! It would especially show her works for the years as they go by and shows what she was doing for a while and would more properly show what she did in her career. Worldwide sales only

Please revert sales figures

Wow!! in a matter of days, Madonna's sales have taken a massive jump. (eg; American Life from 4 million to 6 million and Hard candy from 3.5 million to 5.3 million) Celebration has not sold 2 million copies, whatever Guy Oseary says. I think he meant 200,000 not 2 million. In the current climate, no album can sell 2 million copies in 14 days. Let's all keep loving Madonna but not by inflating sales figures. Most other discographies have unverifiable sales figures, so it is easy for one to believe that Madonna may not have sold as much as others. But let us keep this page as true to reality as possible. No offence to a certain German.

HC sales

The sales figures of Hard Candy are definitely in the region of 3.5 million to 4 million. This is why IFPI stated it was the 11th best selling album in the world in 2008. 1.8 million?? where did that come from.

Can you provide a source for it? Because as far as I can find, HC was certified platinum in Europe by IFPI for sales of 1million. Coupling it with the sales of US I could go as far as 1.8 million. The site madonna-charts.com states that according to a statement issued by Warner Japan, HC sold 3 million in physicals and .5 million in digital downloads. They have maintained a very meticulous record of the sales of the album per week of all the countries where official charts exist. Eureka!! Here is the official citation by Warner Japan dated 28th May 2008 saying that Hard Candy sold 3 million copies worldwide. The only problem is that it is in Japanese and it has to be translated to English. The entry is under 2008/5/28. When Translated to English it reads-The album 'the hard candy' breaking 3,000,000 in the world!

Madonna's contract with Sire did not end in 1991

The forward on the article is incorrect. Madonna's contract with Sire Records did not end in 1991. The 60 million deal she signed that year was with Sire Records, Warner Bros. Records, and Time Warner. Sire remained her dominate label until it left the WBR umbrella in 1995. Also, Maverick was NEVER Madonna's "main" label. They put the name and logo on her Erotica through American Life albums as a courtesy to her, and to further promote the label itself. Notice how none of Madonna's album actually have a Maverick copyright? Her "main" label was Sire until 1995, and then Warner Bros. after that. — The Real One Returns 10:06, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

The Immaculate Collection was released after I'm Breathless

Album Picture Discs.

I notice in the formats section of the majority of the later releases that 'Picture Disc' keeps coming up. The picture Discs available for most of the albums stated are in fact bootlegs. In particular 'The Immaculate Collection' has picture disc listed, but was not released on such a format, however was released as a Box Set, which is not mentioned.Turdalina (talk) 10:09, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Madonna albums discography

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Madonna albums discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Please stop adding such primary sources, as they fail WP:RS. We already have a credible source in the form of Chicago Sun-Times. COADF has sold over 8 million according to Warner press release in the early 2006. The album itself was released in late 2005 and still on most worldwide charts several months after that press release. LAUGH 90, you need to read again Wikipedia policy: Verifiability, not the truth. • The press release was in 2008 not 2006. Just because you read something in aritcle like Chicago Sun Times, doesn't mean it's the 100% truth. According to her RECORD LABEL, the album has sold 8.5 million worldwide to date.

Adding BMG Music Club Sales

Since Nielsen SoundScan does not count Music Club sales in their certifications, I suggest we add them to all Madonna albums which were released in the 1990s/2000s. About certifications

I see most recent featured lists such as Lady Gaga discography, Celine Dion albums discography and Mariah Carey albums discography include all certifications from the countries of peak chart positions, like France, Germany, etc. So, I would like to do the same for this page, what do you think? Is there anyway that the certifications can be made smaller or put into two columns instead of being a long list? Even better, collapsing them as per tracklisting? Hi Guys

With Mdna achieving the number 1 album chart position on April 1st 2012, Madonna is now the most successful solo recording act of all time, overtaking Elvis Presley's 11 solo number albums. Source

Please could a very clever person update the discography which states this out of date information;

'In the United Kingdom, she has become the most successful female artist, with 11 number-one albums, tying her with Elvis Presley as a solo act with most number-one albums.[29]'

Only The Beatles have had more number one albums in UK chart history with 15 - and they were a group.

Add album covers?

Given that the album covers are shown on the indivdidual album pages, would I be correct in imagining there is no downside to showing them (as thumbnails, of course) in the album title column? Albums table

hey guys, suggestion to make. hows about splitting the table up into different sections for ease of readability? ie studio, compilation, soundtrack etc seems to work really well on FL discographies and makes a long table much easier to read. what do you guys think? I STRONGLY disagree with it. It makes it confusing and it doesn't show properly what she's done over the years. If where going to do this then why not SOUNDTRACK SINGLES and COMPILATION SINGLES? Mobile View

The tables works very poorly in Mobile view. Some of the data is unreadable because it's elongated, in places with one character per line. This may be a result of a poorly thought-out Wikipedia style-sheet but it's worth looking at as this is an unusually complex table and could be simplified. (Kammer06 (talk) 15:52, 3 April 2012 (UTC))
