Real Name?

[edit]

WWE's site - http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/sin-cara/sin-cara-suspended - lists his real name as Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde not what is listed on this page. Thoughts? IanPCP (talk) 13:35, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mexico's wrestling "BOOM" period?

[edit]

Mexico is going through a huge boom period right now, similar to the US in the late 90's. Mistico is the most popular wrestler in the country right now probably, and I think all this deserves mention...especially the fact he is top dog during the boom period...--Donnie from the mean streets of Boston, KY 13:51, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WWE tryout

Did he go through with the WWE tryout in San Jose? If so, how did he do? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.152.137.244 (talk) 01:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

and the biggest star or Lucha Libre.

[edit]

1st of all, shouldnt it be " "of" Lucha Libre". And ocording to who, he is the biggest star of lucha libre, if you ask someone else, he might say that "el santo" is the biggest star of lucha libre, so shouldnt it be the "current biggest star of lucha libre". Or the current most popular star of lucha libre, or something like that. Whyle someone decides it, im changing or to of. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by HeatGuyRed (talkcontribs) 22:40, 8 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Title of Article

[edit]

What's going to be happening to the title of this page? Will it remain as Mistico or will it be changed to Sin Cara? 69.243.42.251 (talk) 23:14, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since he's been mostly known as Mistico I'm guessing that it's going to stay that way.24.112.155.217 (talk) 21:06, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it's been changed. By all means, let us bow to the great WWE. I thought it should have stayed "Mistico". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.136.13.211 (talk) 02:40, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't move Mistico to Sin Cara yet

[edit]

This is just a note to anybody who moves Mistico to Sin Cara. Please wait at least six months to a year to move him to Sin Cara. Everybody who watches Lucha Libre knows him as Mistico. Please wait until six months or a year to transfer Mistico to Sin Cara. Thanks for reading this.--Mikeymike2001 (talk) 18:38, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, but that's not going to stop Tjking131 from moving the page time after time. The page should be protected.TheFBH (talk) 02:55, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Everybody who watches Lucha Libre knows him as Mistico". Exactly why it should be moved. He's only with WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT as "Sin Cara". Pretend he's better known as Mistico though, whatever. 88.104.206.251 (talk) 01:50, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hes still better known as Mistico. Hes only appeared on WWE TV once. If he was released tomorrow, the name Sin Cara would largely be forgotten by the casual wrestling fan within six months.Inhumer (talk) 01:45, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
6 months to a yearish it all depends on if he gets pushed in the company or he fades into the background. If he is a champion in a couple of months then things will have to be discussed again. 138.253.199.180 (talk) 14:41, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Even then, I'd argue that it might be best to move the page to his given name because of just how well known he is/was by Mistico.Inhumer (talk) 17:27, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I had that same thought, in moving the article to his given name. Mistico could still redirect there, so no harm done there.   ArcAngel   (talk) ) 15:06, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I follow this article as I watch WWE. I edited it the other day. But, I'd like to point out that Sin Cara isn't a heel. Dunno who thought that up.92.235.168.144 (talk) 05:43, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guys, It has been more then long enough. Somebody should change it over from Mistico to Sin Cara. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.240.63.18 (talk) 02:52, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How important is this sentence?

[edit]

The Sin Cara character returned on the August 12 edition of SmackDown... After another week of Arias portraying Sin Cara, Urive returned under the mask on August 20 at a live event in Tacoma, Washington.[1][2] On August 26 it was reported that Urive had been sent home from the week's SmackDown tapings, with Arias once again appearing on TV under the Sin Cara mask.[3] ... However, at the tapings of the September 16 edition of SmackDown, Urive returned as the original Sin Cara, confronting the impostor version of the character.[4]

How important is the bolded sentence? I think it's pointless since it's a house show event and Arias portrayed Sin Cara for weeks in a row on WWE programming. Could we summarise it to: "From August 12 to September 9, Arias solely played Sin Cara on WWE programming."? Starship.paint (talk) 05:38, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

I see that all wrestlers' articles are named by the ring name used by the wrestler. Sin Cara has joined WWE now 18 months ago. Isn't it time to drop his old ring name ? Regards, Bright Darkness (talk) 01:30, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Universally, no. I think Mexico and some regions still think of him as Místico, not Sin Cara. He was incredibly popular for many years under that name before he became Sin Cara, so I think it's too early for a rename..... yet. Srsrox (talk) 03:14, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Finishing Move(to watch)

[edit]

On the 20th(21st?) February episode of Superstars, he debuted a new finisher against Drew McIntyre. After setting Drew up with a kick to the legs, he performed something akin to a headscissors take-down on a kneeling Drew. Still too early to add, but if he does it again a few more times, probably could. No name, so probably just list as Headscissors *something*(facebuster?) to kneeling opponent. 218.212.229.157 (talk) 15:23, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MísticoSin Cara – He is now much more famous as Sin Cara than he was as Mistico. Most of the success he has had under the Mistico name has been exclusively in Mexico, to a Spanish-speaking audience. To the English world, he is best known as Sin Cara. GeicoHen (talk) 03:32, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose He was a huge star as Mistico, to the point where WWE announced they had signed "Mistico" on WWE TV. It was very unprecedented to make such an announcement, referencing his billed name like that before repackaging him like Sin Cara. But they did it because he was one of the most recognizable wrestlers in the world. He wrestled across Latin America and Asian and gained popularity in America. American based-Pro Wrestling Insider named him the third best wrestler in the world in 2007. Also American-based Wrestling Observer Newsletter awarded him numerous awards including Best Wrestler in 2006, Best Box Office Draw, and Best Box Office Draw of the Decade. He also won numerous wrestling titles as Mistico. Under Sin Cara he has won nothing... except a Slammy Award. He has been on and off of TV for various reasons. When he is on TV he's usually in the middle of the card doing nothing noteworthy.LM2000 (talk) 20:27, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per LM2000. He really was huge in his old name and is now a nobody under the current name.リボン・サルミネン (Ribbon Salminen) (talk) 21:05, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per LM2000 a d WP:RECENTISM oknazevad (talk) 21:09, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose He had more success in Mexico as Místico. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 21:35, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Like with Giant Bernard, language doesn't mean much. Pro wrestling is a universal language, like painting or music. Whether or not English speakers understand the commentators and promos is irrelevant (apparent from YouTube comment boxes under Mistico videos). Also, many Mexicans speak English and use this Wikipedia. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:29, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - By the logic mentioned above, Alberto Del Rio's article needs to move back to "Dos Caras, Jr." --GeicoHen (talk) 05:10, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all. Mistico was hugely successful before coming to WWE and his WWE work doesn't match that success. On the other hand Del Rio had a healthy career before coming to WWE, but became a 4-time world champion in WWE and only received major PWI/WON awards after joining WWE. They're not really comparable in any way.LM2000 (talk) 05:38, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested Sin Cara split

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was split. Jgera5 (talk) 16:35, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It appears now that the Sin Cara gimmick is going to be that of similar masked gimmicks like Kim Chee and be played by separate wrestlers. Although Hunico does have a previous history with the gimmick, him playing the regular Sin Cara on last night's Raw appears to be more of a permanent change, as Místico is reportedly expecting to be released soon. There is precedent of having a specific wrestling character having a separate page from the various performers that have performed the character (e.g. Doink the Clown). Based on that precedent, a separate Sin Cara page would focus strictly on the character in its entirety (including the Azul vs. Negro feud), while the Místico and Hunico pages focuses strictly on those wrestler's times with the gimmick, as well as other gimmicks they have had in the past. Thoughts? Jgera5 (talk) 18:25, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Let's not rush into this. Hunico has recently portrayed Sin Cara just once. Could we at least wait for him to portray Sin Cara for at least a month to be more sure that it is "more of a permanent change" that the original Sin Cara will not return next week? Starship.paint (talk) 01:29, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A lot of the wrestling news sites are reporting that Místico is going to let his contract expire and/or WWE is getting ready to release him and he is ready to move back to Mexico anyways. In any case, it looks like Sin Cara is the new Los Conquistadores when it comes to masked luchas. Jgera5 (talk) 06:20, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It does seem to look like things will be going that route but we can't predict how things like this will turn out (WP:CRYSTAL). I agree with Starship that it's still too soon at the moment, but there is a good chance that we'll have to split the article sometime in the near futureLM2000 (talk) 18:36, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am aware of what various wrestling news sites are reporting. Yet, it is not concrete evidence. I have also read that Kalisto might be called up soon. Anyway, my intention is to delay this split, if we do this split without more of a permanent confirmation from WWE, we will be wasting our time. I will only support a split if either one of the following two conditions is fulfilled- a) Místico is released, after-which Hunico continues to play the Sin Cara character; b) from today until 1 January 2014, Hunico plays the Sin Cara character several times. When one of those happens, you will have my support. Starship.paint (talk) 02:12, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WWE issued the following statement to Prowrestling.net regarding the status of Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde, who plays the Sin Cara character. "The original performer behind the Sin Cara mask remains under contract to WWE. WWE will continue to invest in the character and retain it as part of WWE programming." Starship.paint (talk) 03:45, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE

[edit]

OK, since Místico is now officially done with WWE, I've re-added the tags. Even Sin Cara's current entrance video shows Hunico in the videos. I think it's time to do a split. Jgera5 (talk) 21:30, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Officially done? Source? Anyway, even if true (and I think it is), no need for a new article. Either bio adequately explains when the gimmick switched wrestlers. If there were as many Sin Caras as Doink the Clowns, I'd be for it, but two isn't enough. There's really sweet fuck all to say about the character itself. He's "faceless", from Mexico and enjoys flipping. InedibleHulk (talk) 21:40, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Judging by my criteria that I mentioned on 5 December, I will not oppose the split. I haven't heard about Mistico's release though? Jgera5, maybe it would be better if you worked on it in your sandbox first. Starship.paint (talk / cntrb) 07:38, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I must say that you have a point about not wanting it to be like Doink the Clown, but if Hunico portrays Sin Cara for a long while yet, maybe we could do a merge.PeterMan844 (talk) 04:03, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Although Tiger Mask (professional wrestling) and Doink the Clown have multiple people playing the gimmick, we created the Suicide (wrestling) article when just Kaz and Daniels had portrayed the character. Kendo Nagasaki only has two wrestlers listed as portraying the character, although it has a section for characters played by other wrestlers that were loosely inspired by the gimmick. I'm down for the split as I think Sin Cara is on par with the latter two.LM2000 (talk) 18:59, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

May I suggest Sin Cara (wrestling) as the article name? PeterMan844 (talk) 01:27, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since there is no other noun being portrayed as "Sin Cara", I don't think the (wrestling) is entirely necessary. I do support the split, though. After all, there may still be some people who are unaware of Mistico's departure and may still go to his page for Sin Cara when all the updates are on Hunico's page instead. --SAVIOR_SELF.777 07:10, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I support the split per SRS. CRRaysHead90 | #OneMoreGame 01:26, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Non wrestlers can be faces or heels, I clarified - better??
  • "he worked under the name Místico (Spanish for "Mystic") a religious ring character" — Comma should come between ")" and "a" (It should be ".....Mystic"), a religious.....".

  • Too many references in the lead. Remove them as per the citations section in WP:LEAD and add them in the body.
  • A lot of references to his match-ups are missing in the "Rise to stardom (2004–2009)" sub-heading, particularly in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs. Please rectify them.
  • I will research this and fix it.

  • "After winning the Gran Alternativa, Místico was nicknamed El Principe de Plata y Oro (the Prince of Silver and Gold), after the main colors of his outfits. Shortly afterward, the bookers began teaming him with other established técnicos (faces), such as Negro Casas and Shocker, against the top rudo (heel) groups, Los Guerreros del Infierno and La Furia del Norte. His stature made him an underdog and his high-flying moves, such as diving arm-drags, made him popular with Mexico City crowds. Wrestling Observer voted Místico the 2006 "Performer of the Year", "Biggest Box Office Draw", and "Best Flying Wrestler" in their "Year-End Awards". He was also ranked third in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's list of the top 500 wrestlers of 2007." — Source(s)?
  • "The match was well received by the audience in attendance and fans near the ring threw money into the ring as a sign of appreciation. Two weeks later, he participated in his first singles main event match when he faced Los Guerreros del Infierno leader Último Guerrero in Arena México. He won the fall in two falls after Guerrero was disqualified in the first fall and was pinned in the second with a small package. The match sparked a program with the recently turned Dr. Wagner, Jr. teaming with Místico against Último Guerrero and Rey Bucanero. After that program died down, Místico became involved in a feud with Perro Aguayo Jr. and his Los Perros del Mal group. After defeating Aguayo in a singles match, the two exchanged hair versus mask challenges so Místico was added to the already planned eight-man cage match where the last man in the cage lost his hair or mask. Místico joined Negro Casas, Heavy Metal, Universo 2000 and Máscara Mágica against Aguayo's group consisting of Damián 666, Halloween and Héctor Garza leading up to the match but neither Místico or Aguayo were involved in the finish of the match where Damián pinned Máscara Mágica. In September, he reheated his feud with Último Guerrero with another singles match but in the third fall, he was attacked by Atlantis, turning Atlantis heel. Místico worked a short program with Atlantis but after he defeated Atlantis in a singles match in October, Atlantis focused more on former tag partner Blue Panther." — Source(s),MPJ-DK?

Throughout the training camp, Místico received instruction in Chinese traditional wrestling (Shuaijiao) from Shuaijiao expert Yu Shaoyi (two times regional champion of Beijing) and joint-locking techniques (Qinna) from Mike Martello. The event was covered by Televisa and was broadcast in a series of 16 clips during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games." — Source(s)?
