Photo of Blattnerphone
[edit]Isn't the machine pictured actually a Marconi-Stille? Delverie (talk) 15:57, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
Possibly, but the photo description in Wikipedia resources describes it as a Blattnerphone, and states that the caption in the original source magazine also describes it thus. Mungefuddler123 (talk) 19:48, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Downloaded original 1930s magazine that the picture source refers to: the caption does indeed call it a Blattnerphone. Mungefuddler123 (talk) 22:25, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- For the avoidance of doubt, the machine was actually jointly invented by Blattner and Stille. Although described as a “Blatnerphone”, Marconi manufactured it under licence as the “Marconi-Stille”.
- It was bloody dangerous, and had to be run remotely because the steel tape was made from the same material as razor blades. A tape break would result in the tape unwinding from one of the spools severely injuring, if not killing, anyone in the same room. 2A00:23C8:9883:2601:509C:724:4EBA:5DF1 (talk) 14:12, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
