Crop Rotation environmental benefit

[edit]

I am going to add on to the benefit of crop rotation because the environmental benefit is one of the motivations for locavores, as well as the organic food Inmemoryof babyluna (talk) 20:32, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I reworded a sentence of the first paragraph to make it flow better where it mentions that locavores spawned as a result of eco-consiousness and such. The sentence was awkward and hard to understand.Inmemoryof babyluna (talk) 19:59, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that the "Strategies" section needs to be broken up and improved upon. There are points within this section that I think would fit better within a section I wish to call "Motivation". In the motivation section there should be all the reasons why locavores do the things they do, such as the environmental and health benefits. The strategies section should focus only on where locavores require their local food, such as growing their own or farmer's markets, and how they go about preserving it, as was already discussed in the article.Inmemoryof babyluna (talk) 20:18, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Criticism section of the article is very uninformative, only giving one writer's vague perspective on the topic. Summaries of the responses to that authors article are not even given. Instead of giving specific author's conflicts with locavores, I think the overview of that is argued should be discussed, instead of the articles themselves. I will be improving the Motivations section by adding the following information "The locavore movement presents an opportunity to educate citizens about the nutritional and culinary benefits associated with consumption of wild fish and game, as well as demonstrate the benefits and value of hunting and fishing activities (Tidball, Curtis). Extending the Locavore Movement to Wild Fish and Game: Questions and Implications [1] I will also be adding in that "Local food production has been promoted by many as a veritable panacea for a variety of ills that plague our economy and our environment. Carbon emissions from trucks traversing the country to bring food from the fields to your fridge contribute to global warming" (Sexton, Philpott). Is the locavore food movement bad for the environment and the economy? [2]Some other information that I will be adding is that "Locavores are people who pay attention to where their food comes from and commit to eating local food as much as possible. The great thing about eating local is that it's not an all-or-nothing venture. Any small step you take helps the environment, protects your family's health and supports small farmers in your area (Maiser). 10 Steps to Becoming a Locavore [3] I will also be improving the Strategies section with the following information "The first step to being a locavore is to determine what local means for you. This is an individual decision that should feel comfortable for you and your family. Many locavores start by trying to eat within a 100-mile radius from their homes and then adjust where necessary, sometimes encompassing an area as large as an entire state or region. The important thing is that by creating a boundary, no matter how large, you are becoming conscious of food's origin" (Maiser). 10 Steps to Becoming a Locavore [4] I will also be adding that "Farmers' markets keep small farms in business through direct sales. Rather than going through a middleman, the farmer takes home nearly all of the money that you hand him or her for a delectable apple or a wonderful bunch of grapes. Ask your supermarket manager where your meat, produce and dairy is coming from. Remember that market managers are trained to realize that for each person actually asking the question, several others want to know the same answer. Let the market managers know what's important to you (Maiser)! 10 Steps to Becoming a Locavore [5]CatJuliano (talk) 04:28, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think you need to revise your edits. Please don't just insert only word for word quotes from your sources.Inmemoryof babyluna (talk) 23:06, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
