Shields
[edit]@Lordstorm: Do you know how to upload shields? We need an NR25 and 43. 61.69.229.211 (talk) 10:50, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Relationship to List of road routes in New South Wales
[edit]Lordstorm or can anyone explain why we don't just expand List of road routes in New South Wales with this new material. What's the reason for creating a new article? ~Kvng (talk) 19:14, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Two main reasons:
- Sydney has a high number of road routes - both current and historic - that, if listed all on the same article, the length would make it virtually unreadable;
- to reduce confusion between the alphanumeric system (now the current system across NSW) and the old shield-based one (no longer in use, bar Tourist Routes and a State Route or two).
We are also following the accepted example of Victorian road routes, another state with a high number of road routes (totaling more than NSW): the articles on the current alphanumeric system (List of road routes in Victoria) and the older shield system (List of road routes in Victoria (numeric), still being phased out) were split early in their creation, also to reduce confusion and article length and improve readability.
Yes, other states (like South Australia and the ACT) have both old shield and new alphanumeric systems listed in the same article, because the low numbers of each make it easily presentable (and readable) on the one article. Victoria and NSW need splitting due to sheer numbers.
Also keep in mind the articles on the current alphanumeric systems in both Victoria and NSW will slowly grow longer in the future, as new routes are issued and allocation changes are documented.
This article still needs work - I'm getting to it when I have time! - and was under Draft consideration until very recently: its existence as a separate article was deemed acceptable.
Hope this helps explain things.

Decommissioned routes
[edit]At the bottom of the tables is a legend showing that grey colour entries are decommissioned routes, but just about every entry in the tables is that colour. Surely they are not all decommissioned? Kerry (talk) 21:32, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- Aside, for accessibility reasons, we should not rely on people being able to perceive colour. If a route is decommissioned, it must explicity say so in the text. We cannot rely on colour alone. See MOS:COLOR Kerry (talk) 21:35, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
