Talk:List of people from the City of Bradford
This article is rated List-class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale. It is of interest to the following WikiProjects: | |||||||||||
|
This page complements the others in an existing set. See List of people from West Yorkshire. Many of these pages esist - there is one for every district in Greater Manchester for instance and they are popular e.g. List of people from Bolton is visited 30 times a day. Why have you suddenly decided these pages are non-acceptable after all this time and effort?????
Format
[edit]Having a look round, there doesn't seem to be any particular consistency in format with these lists of people. With regard to dates I'm going to standardize this list on birth and death years, and not bother with full dates. It looks clearer, and if people want to know the finer points they can click through to the main article. If anyone has other opinions please feel free to share. Referencing
[edit]I have previously removed red-linked entries and those without wiki-articles and a number have re-appeared. These need to have articles for them or be removed. Every entry in the list should also have a reference here showing the relation of the person to Bradford. I will leave it a while before culling the list again to give time to add the information. Keith D (talk) 13:54, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, there are some that need culling. Having said that, I left Richard Eurich in with his red link as I think he is sufficiently notable for a Wikipedia article - it's just that no-one has created one yet. He seems to be a notable painter - member of the Royal Academy, OBE, and born in Bradford. I might even create it - given time.
- I was wondering what to do about references.. I've started going through the list, tidying it, and adding why the person is relevant to Bradford. I was thinking of getting rid of external links, where there is already a wikipedia article; the article itself should provide the background detail and any required references. It only seems necessary to have references for those people who don't yet have an article. What do you think? Nick Watts (talk) 15:00, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- The linked article is not sufficient for a reference. Firstly it may not have a reference for the connection to Bradford, secondly if there is a reference that reference could be removed from the linked article leaving this article without a reference. We should not be relying on other wiki-articles to supply a reference. If a reference is in the linked article for the connection to Bradford then it can be transferred here. Keith D (talk) 18:55, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- Just looking at the Manual of Style on Lists of People (WP:LISTPEOPLE), it says If a person in a list does not have an article in Wikipedia about them, a citation (or link to another article) must be provided to establish their membership in the list's group and to establish their notability., which seems to suggest that if a properly referenced Wikipedia article exists that supports the list criteria, then there is no need for a further citation on the list itself. Surely we don't want to be maintaining a list of duplicated references which will double the length of the article? Nick Watts (talk) 10:46, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Agree with Keith D. All articles should have refs, some of the linked articles have none. I have provided some.--J3Mrs (talk) 11:42, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Seeing many additions with 175heroes.org.uk as the only citation source, due to many entries relating to biographies of living persons, I don't think using just that references is substantial enough to cite some of the claims made, as it seems that citation source is linked with the main editors of this page. Chantel McGregor
[edit]Could someone revert the Chantel McGregor page, the picture has disappeared, it looks like clear vandalism, thanks Bradford4life (talk) 18:20, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Inclusion criteria
[edit]How exactly are people eligible for this list? There seems to be a huge amount of people not even from Bradford on here, particularly footballers from all and sundry parts of the country. Why not just link to the lists of Bradford City footballers etc. Secondly isn't Menston in Leeds and not Bradford for those so picked? 86.153.82.204 (talk) 21:58, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Repeated removal of Shehzad Tanweer from list
[edit]Recently there have been repeated removals of Islamic terrorist Shehzad Tanweer from this article, even though the reliable sources provided clearly show he was born in Bradford. These removals have all had no explanation, other than the most recent one which noted the were "no similar edits on the leeds page". While this point may well be true, it is completely irrelevant. If similar Islamic terrorists who took part in the same atrocities (or any persons for that matter) are missing from the List of people from Leeds article then the solution is to add them, not to delete appropriate content from here instead. Thanks.--Shakehandsman (talk) 13:46, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
