[edit]This page is missing one important part: it doesn't define what a hyperboloid structure is!
- It did link to hyperboloid structure, but I've made it more obvious now. jnestorius(talk) 10:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Did Sukhov precede Gaudi?
[edit]Sukhov seems to be getting a lot of attention as the person to use hyperboloids in architecture first. According to the article, the first public display of Sukhov's hyperboloid tower was in 1896. However, Gaudi's Finca Guell, with a hyperbolic lantern vault is completed in 1884.76.167.43.150 (talk) 00:17, 13 April 2008 (UTC) Alberto
- Gaudi pre-dates. But he used a hyperbolic arch (and mostly parabolic arches) rather than a hyperboloid (a rotated hyperbola). Andy Dingley (talk) 15:51, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
- That said, there are plenty of hyperbolic structures here which are not hyperboloids. They should not be listed here (maybe elsewhere) as they're outside the scope of this list, and a scope which broadened to include them should not pass our criteria as being a coherent single list.
- I'd also note that Sagrada Familia doesn't use hyperboloids (those domes are paraboloids), nor is it a cathedral. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:00, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
Imperator Pavel
[edit]The cage masts on the Russian battleship Imperator Pavel are conical cage lattices, but they're not hyperboloids. The US battleships are hyperboloids though. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:01, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
Another structure which is a conical lattice, but not a hyperboloid. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:05, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi spaceframe?
[edit]Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has been added to List of hyperboloid structures and described as a 'spaceframe'. Unsourced, as usual. It does appear to be a hyperboloid, but the spaceframe claim is much more tenuous. Although the crossover is possible, it would be pretty unusual for such a structure to be both simultaneously. Can anyone help source this? Andy Dingley (talk) 10:53, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
