Membership Figuers

[edit]

Seems that the membership figures should be qualified in some sense. That is, these figures are all self-reported. Some unions it is possible to verify figures, with other unions it would simply be impossible. I suggest some note to this effect, eg "These are self-reported membership totals".Goldsztajn 04:53, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you are relatively new to Wikipedia so welcome to the Organised Labour group. I suspect that most organisations are responsible for maintaining their membership figures so I'm wondering if it would add anything other to put a question mark in people's minds about the figures. On looking through the article some of the membership figures are so broad that it's obvious they are estimates. Whilst what you are saying is, strictly speaking, true of course do you think it would add anything useful to the understanding of the article? - Dave Smith 12:37, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, yes I think it makes a significant difference, otherwise I would not have mentioned it. The point is if this is an encyclopaedia, how does one reference something like membershiop figures? Is the source we utilise reliable? I know many of these trade union figures are grossly unreliable, but there is no way to independently verify the numbers universally, in most cases all we can do is rely on self-declared membership. As such I think a note to that effect is worthwhile.Goldsztajn 22:44, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

list of national federations

[edit]

the table is getting very long, I propose breaking it into regions as follows:

North America
Central America
South America
Caribbean
Western Europe
Eastern Europe
South Asia
South East Asia
North East Asia
Middle East
Sub Saharan Africa
Pacific

Use of the word in Socialist writings

[edit]

I'm reading about the history of the Left, and one thing they say is that labor organisations ought to be "federalised". I thought I could find an explanation on this page. I wonder what is meant. 66.19.205.74 (talk) 01:38, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Table

[edit]

I put a lot of work into the table, but it needs many more changes: (1) less <br /> by separating content into different rows; (2) finish moving to alphabetical; (3) use {{lang}} to properly support native language names; and (4) separate from the "Name" section into "Name", "Native name", and "Abbr" columns. –MJLTalk 04:26, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
