Celebrities

[edit]

The namedropping on celebrities is getting ridiculous on this page. While Ignio Straffi did confirm the six main girls being based on starlets, Flora being based on Jennifer Lopez, many seem to be just fanon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.37.214.70 (talk) 01:05, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Aisha

[edit]

Aisha (Layla) isn't African-American!She isn't even from Earth! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.126.118.246 (talk) 12:43, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When and where did Layla become renamed Aisha? It appears that at the end of season 4, she's Layla, and in the first episode of season 5 she suddenly is called Aisha. But I was not able to find any reason to this.

Note on the comment above: she looks like a latina or half-afro. Since we don't know how races are named on her world, it is a fitting description of her appearance. 85.176.210.237 (talk) 05:58, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

why?

[edit]

Why have wikipedia haves all articels of winx chracters have add it to 1 articel and not own articel?--Maxie1hoi (talk) 18:23, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

IDK, but one of us should do 1 character's article. CariDee (talk) 23:16, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Winx based on celebrities

[edit]

Please use this source to say that the Winx girls are based on female celebrities. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 08:35, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bad wording

[edit]

A lot on this article is badly worded or contains excessively flowery language. I think the paragraphs for the main characters need to be rewritten that they they'll be concise without using superfluous wording, and some sections need to be changed, such as Daphne, who is not actually a Winx. 197.225.36.194 (talk) 02:40, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Remove signature colors and birthdays

[edit]

What are signature colors? Are these sourced somewhere or just made up by fans to describe what their character's favorite colors are? This kind of fancruft needs to be removed as with the birthdays. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 01:31, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Signature colors are the colors that the Winx members wear in their transformation and outfits. Next time don't be so dumb 😝 CariDee (talk) 22:47, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pets

[edit]

Pets and related characters (excluding Kiko) that bond with the main characters should either be grouped under the character or in the separate section. They do not need to be listed in both places. It is also debatable whether they should be included in the infobox. Are they important only for that season or do they accumulate and stay around for multiple seasons? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 01:40, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AngusWOOF this is actually the comment that led to me testing if moving closely related charaxters would be make more sense reading the article. No content was added or repeated originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 19:25, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

I've been planning to clean up this list. I wanted to make sure my main changes were outlined below so others could suggest things or help out.

  • Adding a section on how the characters were created. Iginio Straffi has given a few interviews where he talks about changes to character designs and his addition of Aisha to the cast.
  • Condensing list so that only the notable characters are described. I think the Winx, Specialists, season antagonists, important school staff and family members, and (maybe) the bonded creatures would make the cut. Unimportant minor characters shouldn't be listed here.
  • Refocusing the descriptions to remove irrelevant plot details/"fancruft".

-Lagoona Blue (talk) 16:36, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How are production trivia such as character creation not fancruft? Dimadick (talk) 19:19, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A "Concept and creation" section is an essential part of character articles according to Wikipedia's manual of style for TV. It wouldn't be trivia, but provide outside information on how the characters were created, which balances the in-universe character bios. Character lists that are "Featured" include this section (examples are List of Tokyo Mew Mew characters and List of The Last of Us characters). -Lagoona Blue (talk) 20:03, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This sounds like a good plan; I've been trying to cut some of the outfit/appearance descriptions but am not sure of the extent - do you think hair and skin color should be left in? Also imo it's hard to figure out which characters to cut and which to combine into a mention in other character's sections. There's definitely minor characters that could be combined with each other as well. originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 23:37, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have some decent sources for the production details? You can also look at List of Fairy Tail characters as how some of the character design details were integrated. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:09, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Basic hair color, style and skin tone can be noted, but fancruft such as her signature colors or costumes throughout seasons should be removed, unless there are non-crufty magazine articles that make the specific colors/symbols a big deal. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:11, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, that's approximately what I've been doing. Good reference point article also. Thanks! originalmesshow u doin that busta rhyme? 00:17, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If the producers have a blog as with LoliRock, then that's a world of extra design background detail too. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:37, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

English cast removed

[edit]

I've removed the remains of the English voice cast so that the characters list only has the Italian dub. But if you are looking for the English casts, you can see the old versions of the main Winx Club article such as: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Winx_Club&oldid=888146703#Voice_Cast This is in case you need to add them to filmographies and need episode references for the English voice actors. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 19:16, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@AngusWOOF: While cleaning up this article, I only kept the original voices that the animation was synced to, and no dub-over actors. (I had to figure out and add quite a few Italian actors.) It is a little confusing, but the show's original language was Italian until the hour-long specials and seasons 5-6 produced with Nickelodeon. For these episodes, Nickelodeon Animation Studio's English voice actors provided the original audio track that the animation was synced to, and the Italian actors dubbed over the American actors. I agree the unoriginal voices should not be listed, but this list should cover both original casts. Lagoona Blue (talk) 01:40, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That needs to be explained in the paragraph, and if confirmed with reliable sources, the Nickelodeon ones can be added back for that purpose. World of Winx is similar. The English / Netflix dub came first before the Italian one. And LoliRock had English dubbed before the French. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 01:44, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I added a paragraph with a reference to an interview from season 5. It explains how the animation was synced to Nickelodeon's actors, and was synced to the Italian actors for previous seasons. Lagoona Blue (talk) 01:56, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It feels a bit weird to only have the original Italian cast and some of the English cast here, considering this is still the English Wikipedia people in English speaking countries grew up with an English dub and would want to find such information here. The remaining English dubs are just as relevant regardless of whether the English or Italian dub of a specific season came out first. The 4Kids dub dominated in the US at the time, and the Cinélume/RAI English dub was the official English dub for seasons 1-4, ordered by Rainbow, used on the official YouTube channel and streaming services. So I'd say let's bring back the other English dubs' cast details please. Blokbroek (talk) 14:30, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Roxy

[edit]

Anyone who has actually watched series 4 and 5 (to some extent, 6 and 7 too) knows that the Winx never named Roxy one of them. Even if the producers planned to add her at some time, it didn't end up happening in the episodes. You seem to think that these magazines and articles say she's the seventh "member," but all I see is "seventh fairy." Not member, not club joinee. If these sources are the best ones you can find, that's even more reason to delete that sentence. Characters such as Faragonda and Daphne have numerous more appearances than Roxy whose roles are small. --Insomnijaxx (talk) 16:36, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Having "fewer appearances" than Season 1 characters doesn't override clear sourcing on Roxy's role in the Club when she was added in Season 4. I don't understand how you came to the conclusion "all I see is 'seventh fairy.' Not member, not club joinee." The sources on the article clearly state "a seventh fairy ... Roxy will join the Winx group" and "She ... joins the Club." The title of the official magazine being "Roxy the Seventh Fairy" (Roxy la Settima Fata) is just a shortened version of that description, that she is the seventh fairy in the group. If you want to change up which sources we use, that's fine because there are a lot: her bio on the WinxClub.com website clearly says she is a "new entry in the Club", Rainbow's 2009 guidebook says "Roxy, who is the seventh Winx", etc. Lagoona Blue (talk) 17:07, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
These books and interviews are non-canonical fancruft released before series 4 finished. Likely fluff to entice fans to watch for a "new Winx" when in reality Roxy was just a new supporting ally of the Winx. In series 4, there is no mention of Roxy "joining" the six Winx. Series 5 confirms this, as the six Winx continue their story alone and Roxy is not part of them. --Insomnijaxx (talk) 15:55, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how I can keep responding to this if all of the basic sources are continually discarded with unsourced fan theories. Judging a huge amount of first-party sources ex. the official Winx website, Rainbow's tie-in guidebook, the production companies' websites, as "non-canonical" is original research. Same with the unsourced judgment of the fifth series, which was subject to a lot of reworking anyway because of its new US involvement: any theories about why Roxy didn't show up as much in the finished season are unsourced fan opinions as well....It doesn't change the cited fact that Roxy became the 7th fairy to join the Winx group when she was added to the team in Season 4, because all of Rainbow's sources from that season say this, in very clear terms. Please don't keep hypothesizing about why she was created, if you don't have any sources. Lagoona Blue (talk) 17:19, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand by what logic Roxy is Winx? Those sources you gave must have misinterpreted the fourth season or are outdated. Maybe the creators of the series planned to make Roxy a Winx, but changed their mind? In the fourth season, she had her most significant role when she was the last fairy on Earth and was first prevented from being captured by the wizards of the Black Circle and returning magic to Earth. Then she had to help convince the Earth Fairies to give up their revenge. At the beginning of the fifth season, she was still a side character when the Winx were still on Earth, but after they return to Alfea to figure out how to defeat Tritannus, Roxy becomes just a background character. In the sixth season, she returns as a supporting character for a few episodes, when she discovers that a bird is Principal Griffin turned into a bird, and with the help of Palladium, transforms Griffin back into human form. In the seventh season, she is a slightly more significant character again, when she tells the Winx where animals are in danger. I don't think she appears in the eighth season at all? So how can she be a Winx, when after the fourth season she is mostly a background character in the fifth and sixth seasons, in the eighth season she doesn't appear at all and in the seventh season she doesn't play nearly as big a role as in the fourth season? Luurankosoturi (talk) 21:54, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait a minute. Among other things, I found such[1][2]. I don't understand why she would be part of the Winx, although at least in the TV series she doesn't hang out with them after the fourth season. Luurankosoturi (talk) 22:12, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup?

[edit]

The removal of "non-notable" characters during the page cleanup of 2019 is excessive. The removed "non-notable" characters aren't unimportant background characters, they are relevant for understanding the show's plot and setting, and their removal meant that information for understanding these was deleted from the page. They need to be added back. 197.225.107.179 (talk) 01:16, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, even though there are a lot of characters, it would be good if those named characters could be added back to match the cleaned up style of writing on the page now. Even if they are minor characters, if they were named and notable in some way. TheFallenPower (talk) 02:19, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have added them back. 197.225.111.89 (talk) 16:47, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
These aren't needed. The animal/creature support characters don't need individual entries with bolding. They are covered in the paragraphs. Most of the critical characters are still in the current list, including home world parents/guardians. Are there other characters that are not listed that you think should be? AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 00:22, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@AngusWOOF: All the non-animal/non-creature support characters who were removed should be in the paragraphs. They aren't all main characters, but they aren't irrelevant background characters either, and their roles in the show make them notable enough to be worth being mentioned in this article. 197.225.111.101 (talk) 19:34, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@AngusWOOF: Courtesy ping since you have you sign again for the ping to work. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:42, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Blaze Wolf, they should be recurring characters as well and not just ones for some episodics. See List of One Piece characters or List of Fairy Tail characters as an examples of character lists where they have hundreds of recurring and fairly major characters that got relegated to paragraphs in the groups they represent. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 22:30, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@AngusWOOF: The removed characters were largely all recurring characters. And the few ones on the page before the cleanup who appeared only in a couple of episodes, like Amentia, Nova, and the Ethereal Fairies, nonetheless had quite important roles for the plot.197.225.96.107 (talk) 10:53, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd prefer not to be part of this. All I did was ping you for the IP since they added the ping after they put their signature. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 12:30, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Since no one is replying here, I am again restoring the characters removed from the page for being "non-notable" in the meantime. As I've pointed out in this discussion above, the removed characters aren't mere irrelevant background characters, they are either recurring or have important roles in the plot or worldbuilding. 197.225.224.157 (talk) 17:32, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Roxy's Homeworld

[edit]

The page needs to mention the planet that Roxy's from because the planets where the other Winx are from are said on the page. Chidie345 (talk) 02:07, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
