To-do list for List of English districts:
|
Hinckley and Bosworth
[edit]si 1973/551 actually has Hinckley and Bosworth district being called "Bosworth", rather than "Hinckley".
- B hell you're right, that was the half of the name they were using. Don't know where my brain was that day...Lozleader 19:43, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- easy mistake to make, as most of the other X -> X and Y consisting of adding a smaller place. (but in this case Bosworth is far historicker) Morwen - Talk 20:01, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Why so many articles?
[edit]Why are there so many List of English districts ... articles? I realise this is possibly contentious so have listed it here for further discussion. However, is there any reason why all of the following cant be merge into this article with a single sortable table:
- List of English districts by area
- List of English districts by ethnic diversity
- List of English districts by population density
- List of districts in south east England by population
- List of English districts by population
It appears at the very least that this article and List of English districts by population are virtually duplicates of each other. I'm thinking it should be possible to produce a sing list of the form:
Name | Website | Type | Ceremonial County | Region | Population (2008 est.) |
Area (km²) |
Density (per km²) |
White % |
S.Asian % |
Black % |
Chinese & other % |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Manchester | website | Metropolitan borough, City (1853) | Greater Manchester | North West | 464,200 | 115.65 | 4,014 | 81.0 | 9.1 | 4.5 | 1.3 |
Birmingham | website | Metropolitan borough, City (1889) | West Midlands | West Midlands | 1,016,800 | 267.79 | 3,797 | 70.4 | 19.5 | 6.1 | 0.5 |
IMHO, not only does this get rid of five articles of at least partial duplication, it also makes the article much more informative and useful Pit-yacker (talk) 16:25, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- This is a great idea! Jolly Ω Janner 17:05, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- I think this is a good idea, although what definition of districts are you using - tiers beneath county councils or a wider definition to include unitaries and counties? Also, don't think the website column is needed. Eldumpo (talk) 16:25, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- I wasn't at this stage really considering the correctness or completeness of the districts included in this article. To be honest, I don't really understand all the technicalities. I was looking at a more abstract level about whether this series of articles are better merged into a single article.Pit-yacker (talk) 00:10, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- You need some way of keeping the ranking column rather than having to count the entries once you have sorted the table. Keith D (talk) 00:02, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- All the articles are standard types. The allow accurate categorisation, which is one of the principal strengths of wikipedia. Therefore I will be removing this now aged and unimplemented merger suggestion. Wimstead (talk) 11:21, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Update to population figures
[edit]I will update the population figures to reflect the recently published population estimates for mid-2014 Greensl7 (talk) 10:05, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
I have made the update to the figures but also need to update the reference which I don't seem able to do. Can you help at all please? I'm not sure why this page is different to others I have updated Greensl7 (talk) 12:47, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- The reference comes from a template, I have modified to use the England only reference which is the mid-2014 rather than the default 2011 reference. The figures in this article should match those that were recently placed in the selection template to update all of the individual district articles. Keith D (talk) 19:56, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
