Proposed move of List of Brahmins
In the Article List of Brahmins which is almost an advertising content like List, there are no references to assume it verifiable and reliable as well as the topic is not notable to have separate page on Wikipedia as there are other so many groups of people in India and it will be just a mess up. There is already notable people section on every page , so this article should be moved/merged/deleted. Manupriy Ahluwalia (talk) 09:44, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
–– If this page is deleted then so should pages like "List of Sikhs", "List of Rajputs", "List of Jats" etc. Otherwise you're being biased.

Copy and Paste
A lot of this article appears to be copy and paste from the article Telugu Brahmins. This article will need some serious attention before someone nominates it for deletion. Democraticmacguitarist (talk) 00:52, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
About this article
- This article is in user space because it was the subject of a deletion discussion which decided to delete.
- A deletion review would be required before it could be recreated.
- I see you've been working hard on this list, but if you look in the history (e.g. this version) you'll see that it used to be in pretty good shape.

you missed out the great footballers of bengal eg chuni goswami, p k banerjee, etc. a lesser known fact: about half of the mohun bagan players in that famous 1911 ifa shield were brahmins. in fact brahmins have dominated bengal football for decades, right up to the 1980s.
you also missed out the fact that most of the people involved in killing mohandas karamchand gandhi were brahmins, including nathuram godse and narayan apte, both of whom were executed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.3.16.66 (talk) 15:56, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Dynamic list
Should we add a {{Dynamic list}} here? The article is hopelessly incomplete. --Tito Dutta (talk) 21:36, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- It certainly is incomplete. It is also pointless, along with all the similar lists that try to group people by caste and/or social status (List of Dalits etc). They are also all timesinks and inevitably contain BLP violations. I wish there was some way to nominate the lot for deletion *and* actually get that result. I won't be around to respond further over the next few days; I shouldn't even be here right now. - Sitush (talk) 00:25, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Let's take them one by one
Hello. Is Ajay Devgn a Brahmin? The provided source seems to say he is a Vishwakarma. Thanks and regards, Biwom (talk) 11:42, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
- Another name for Vishwakarma is Vishwabrahmin, Dhiman Brahmin, or Jangid Brahmins. In the four varnas, (Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra) they fall under Brahmin. Vishwakarma is a sub caste of Brahmin -- they are hundreds to thousands of other Brahmin sub castes. - OK, now I think I understand where the problem lies. Well, I owe you an apology then, because at the beginning I really thought you were a vandal. However, we have a policy (a rule that you MUST follow) here in the English Wikipedia (see WP:BLPCAT) that say you must not write about the caste of a living person unless that person has publicly self-identified as a member of this caste. Which means, you can only include Ajay Devgn in a list of Brahmins if you have a reliable source in which Ajay Devgn says "I am a Brahmin". Do you have such a source? Thanks and regards, Biwom (talk) 03:49, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- No, Vishwakarma/Vishwabrahmin are not Brahmins. This is by consensus - the claim is made by some members of that community but rejected by everyone else. This battle has been going on for years on Wikipedia. The references given above are useless WP:SPS - never believe a word published on caste websites. - Sitush (talk) 04:07, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I wouldn't know. I'm not an Indian myself, just someone who likes watching Indian movies. I simply noticed after doing a bit of research that almost all the actors in Indian cinema belonged to the Brahmin caste and I saw that this list was rather incomplete so I made a contribution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marknote00 (talk • contribs) 05:39, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
References
Padma Laxmi
If in the source she states she follows a Hindu Brahmin diet, she is obviously a Brahmin -- a person wouldn't say such if they were not. That, and the fact that Laxmi is a common Brahmin surname should be enough to prove that she belongs to the Brahmin caste.
This list is extremely incomplete and lacks countless people. A person should not have to say, "I am a Brahmin" to be on this page, especially when it is common knowledge that they belong to the caste. If a person has disassociated themselves (such as Amitabh Bachchan) it is a different story, however. Is there an official Wikipedia page that states that a person must acclaim their caste to be on a page like this? I have noticed that for ethnicities, self identification is not required. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:569:78C7:4B00:A4C8:1790:2F78:CDBE (talk) 22:09, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
- Please read User:Sitush/Common#Castelists. I might follow a Kosher diet but not be Jewish. - Sitush (talk) 22:17, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
- I see. However, that is not an official Wikipedia page, that is a page created by you. This page should be more informative, especially considering the large amount of Brahmins that are notable. When there are multiple websites stating the caste of a person, and the fact that their last name is common to that caste, it should be enough. Another thing I've noticed is that when ethnicities of celebrities are stated on the person's biography on Wikipedia, a source of them self-identifying is not required, so for that reason I feel that it should not be required for castes. I am an anonymous contributor and, of course I have not been on Wikipedia for an as lengthy time as you, but all I want is for lists as such to be complete, rather than extremely incomplete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:569:78C7:4B00:6DED:6D51:3D2E:9D2C (talk) 03:45, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
- Read the links in my writing there. It is a summary of consensus and you are not going to over-ride it. - Sitush (talk) 03:47, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
I still do not see how a source of them self identifying is required. The links in your writing show nothing to attest to this. It is not only me who is trying to override this, it is the many other people who make contributions to this page (with reliable sources) and you revert their edits. It almost appears as if you have something against members of this community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.250.231.39 (talk) 00:17, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Can you also explain why for other caste lists on Wikipedia (list of Jatts, list of Dalits, list of Kayashtas, etc.) self-identification sources are not required? You seem to only require such sources on list of Brahmins, list of Khatris, and list of Rajputs. Any contributions made in the latter three are immediately reverted by you and it is the contrary for the former three. In fact, some of the latter three have no sources at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.250.231.39 (talk) 00:27, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- You are seeing ghosts. It is not only me who requires such sources - it is consensus, as I mention above. And it is applicable to every caste list, not just those you mention. There is, however, no deadline: it is impossible for any one person to monitor the > 5 million articles on Wikipedia. - Sitush (talk) 02:17, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

This list woefully incomplete. Under the section "Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics", It does not Include, for example, Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar (Mathematician), Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (Nobel laureate Physicist), Manjul Bhargava (Fields Medalist), Akshay Venkatesh (Fields Medalist), Narendra Karmarkar (Computer Scientist), Shreeram Shankar Abhyankar (Mathematician) and many, many more. Furthermore, people like Ahluwalia who are complaining about how this is like an "advertisement" have no qualms about pages like "List of Sikhs" etc. Either delete this page entirely or update it with relevant information. Promulgating incomplete information is NOT a part of Wiki's goals and guidelines I presume. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pkwssis (talk • contribs) 14:19, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Orphaned references in List of Brahmins
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of Brahmins's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Pandit R DAKSHINAMOORTHI - the famous astrologer and mantras-shastra expert is also a Brahmin (Specifically a Tamil Brahmin). He is a celebrity astrologer associated with sites like truthstar.com, and the international astrological site - www.kasamba.com. He is a rare expert who walks the talk in the sense - he not only teaches intense mantra shastraic concepts to others, he also practices those intensely; for instance, he is known to undergo an intense fast (totally abstaining from food) for 12 days around both Vasantha Navarathri and Sharada Navarathri - surpassing even many ascetics by this feat which he has been doing for the past many years (many people - including our PM Modiji claim to fast on Navarathris, but they consume unlimited juices/ fruits; Panditji observes a total fast and immerses himself in upaasanaas like the sages of yore.
