Requested move to Lily Rose Cooper
- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the proposal was not moved. Supports are outside of any policy I know of or can find and certainly no one has cited any targeted policy backing their support. WP:BLP is mentioned but it does not address this issue (nor is it stated anywhere that common names are generally inapplicable when a BLP is involved, as asserted below). A generic link to WP:MOS is cited for reasons that are not clear. Two cases of articles that were moved following a name change were raised, but those were not policy-based requested move discussions, nor was there any analysis of this being analogous (or whether those moves were even proper). On the other hand, WP:COMMONNAME, cited below, addresses this issue directly: "If the name of a person, group, object, or other article topic changes, then more weight should be given to the name used in reliable sources published after the name change than in those before the change." Here we have a very well known person whose fame is under the current title (there are 22 news results for the target name and almost 19,000 for the current). We would confound the expectations of a huge numbers of searchers by the requested change at this time. Having articles at common names is fundamental to our naming conventions and well established for BLPs through the vast numbers of articles on people at titles that are not their actual names. (Shall we retitle Cat Stevens Yusuf Islam [or Steven Demetre Georgiou]?) If she becomes well known to the world by the changed name, as shown in reliable sources, then this can be revisited, in keeping with the quoted policy. That has not occurred yet.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:09, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
Lily Allen → Lily Rose Cooper – Request made 3 August 2012 by user:Edkollin using template:movenotice. Reason given by Edkollin "She has changed her professional name from Lily Allen to Lily Rose Cooper" -- PBS (talk) 21:12, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
She has changed her professional name from Lily Allen to Lily Rose Cooper [1] and in my view that is what we should use because the main reason we have this article is her professional work. There is a redirect from Lily Rose Cooper currently. Edkollin (talk) 17:06, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- But that source doesn't say exactly when or how. And all of her fame to date has been with the name Lily Allen. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:24, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Support. Following WP:MOS, it would be more proper to move her to the new article. However, to support what Martinevans123 is saying, this would take a massive undertaking. You have to change every "Allen" in the article to "Cooper" and move other articles of hers such as:
- Or am I just paranoid? — WylieCoyote (talk) 19:29, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. We should change the article to Lily Rose Cooper. Because that is what she is called. CPGirlAJ (talk) 19:37, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Is that what she is legally called, or what she now chooses to call herself? Does that matter? Will she become "TAFKAA"?! Martinevans123 (talk) 19:41, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- The article (and others) states that she has "changed her professional name", meaning legally. If like Prince, she changes it back in five years, we'll move it back, via the wonders of Wikipedia. — WylieCoyote (talk) 20:37, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Is that what she is legally called, or what she now chooses to call herself? Does that matter? Will she become "TAFKAA"?! Martinevans123 (talk) 19:41, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Instead of citing secondary sources, better use the primary source here. Its the offical press release of her publicist (on which all other articles out there are based on). I do not think there is an immediate need to rename it, because she is just famous for here work as Lily Allen and there is no work at all released under her new name (so nobody really knows her under her new name). There is just an announcement(!) for future songs (and we do not know if these future songs even get published or she even gets famous under her new name). After the release of an album under here new name and after she is better known under here new name, we can pick this up again - before then just leave it as it is! --77.4.48.249 (talk) 22:03, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
- Sooner or later, it will need to be moved. It's reminiscent of creating seasonal articles for TV shows. Some are against it as "IT'S TOO SOON!" but inevitably, they get created. — WylieCoyote (talk) 02:53, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- No, in this case it is NOT inevitable, because there are no real facts and no album with her new name, just an empty promise for the future. She even do not have an recording contract! Everybody knows Mrs. Allen/Cooper is great in blah blah blah and making empty promises and changing her mind radically (remember her saying she makes no more music, she quits social media... etc. - now she makes a 180 U-turn as if she never said that in the past!). The comparison with TV shows is wrong, because the announcement of a TV Show is backed by a studio and a broadcaster. Mrs. Allen is just backed by the unreliable Mrs. Allen herself! Unless there is no record company advertising her new album, there is NO WAY to change the name of the article!
- BTW: What if Mrs. Allen get divorced from Mr. Cooper? You think she will stick to the stage name Cooper? No way, so the next name change announcement is preprogrammed ...just saying ;-) -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.4.54.76 (talk) 13:04, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'll return in 6 months to either eat my words or gloat.
- P.S. Don't forget to sign your comments! — WylieCoyote (talk) 14:20, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- Support but incubate. It is better if we could wait for some more time. Until an official say of her name change, probably through an album cover or something.
- Oppose — Per the guidelines of WP:COMMONNAME, she is more commonly known by Lily Allen, and should remain as such. Musicfreak7676 my talk page! 19:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose Agree with above. She is commonly known as Lily Allen, and the article should reflect such. Now, after she releases new music, the story may be different. Statυs (talk) 02:36, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose I concur with the other two above me. If we rename this article to her birth name, we would have to do this with other notable actors and musicians(ie.rename Alice Cooper to Vincent Damon Furnier, Marilyn Monroe to Norma Jeane Mortenson, Charlie Sheen to Carlos Irwin Estevez ...et al.). --FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 14:37, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- No we wouldn't. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:12, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Support per Lily Allen herself BBC "Lily Allen changes stage name to Lily Rose Cooper" 3 August 2012, however it can wait until she releases next CD. Presumably that's what we're waiting for for Mos Def to be allowed his chosen muslim name Yasiin Bey. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:12, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose unless and until she becomes commonly known to the public as Lily Rose Cooper. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:38, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- Support I'm not sure how I feel about this, but WP:COMMONNAME doesn't usually apply to name changes for BLPs. See cases such as Metta World Peace and Chad Johnson (wide receiver). --BDD (talk) 20:50, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
Miscarriage
It seems odd to me that the miscarriage is mentioned twice as a reason for delaying an album, but is never mentioned in any other manner, such as in a non-music-related bio section. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the subject could rectify this? -mattbuck (Talk) 20:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Nothing about the recent one either. FotoPhest (talk) 19:50, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Agreed! Also at one point it says she is pregnant a second time when it's in fact the fourth (first - miscarriage, second - stillborn, third - Ethel and now her fourth which is due next month.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theplasticminute (talk • contribs) 08:03, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Please change:
This would lead to Allen singing Baby Mine from Disney's Dumbo at a school concert.
To:
This would lead to Allen singing "Baby Mine" from Disney's Dumbo at a school concert.
Reason: a) per Wikipedia: Manual of Style/Music #Popular music, song titles should be in quotes, not italic ; b) red-link to song - the article for which is being submitted for creation, and falls within guidelines for Wikipedia: Manual of Style/Linking #Red links and WP: REDLINK ; c) per MoS, movie titles should be in italics.

Pregnancy
The sentence "In July [2012], Allen confirmed reports that she was pregnant again." can be removed, as one paragraph later it is said that "Allen gave birth to her second child, daughter Marnie Rose, on 8 January 2013". So the first statement is obsolete. 158.64.4.214 (talk) 16:20, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Lily Allen is not activist
She is not LGBT rights activist, is not feminist and is not environmentalist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.117.181.161 (talk) 22:51, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- In the absence of any mention in the article of LGBT rights activism or feminism, I have removed those two categories. The environmentalist cat appears to be supported by this ref (currently footnote 51). Rivertorch (talk) 05:24, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
The environmentalist category does not appear to be supported by none reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.225.171.124 (talk) 14:46, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- "By none reference"? I have no idea what that means, but the category inclusion does appear to be supported by the ref linked above. If you disagree, please explain why, and try to be clear. Rivertorch (talk) 18:44, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm not really disagree with that matter, because she is not an environmentalist. She is not activist in none subject and all they know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.226.28.8 (talk) 18:01, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I got the gist of what you think the first time around. What I asked was that you explain why you think it. Remember, what matters is not your opinion or mine as to whether she actually is an environmentalist; you need to show either that the source doesn't support such a categorization or that the source is unreliable. Rivertorch (talk) 04:18, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- She was added to the Feminist musicians cat but I removed it per this previous discussion. Although this is different from the feminist cat she was previously in I assume the lack of feminist mentions in the article prevent this category from being any more useful than the first.LM2000 (talk) 07:06, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

"Cockney"
The "Artistry" section begins with:
- "Allen's early released songs saw her take on a thick Cockney accent while singing against retro productions.[1] Her music was used as part of an exhibition at the British Library tracing the history of Cockney English.[2]"
There are a couple of problem here. In the first instance, the first Billboard citation is a dead link, but more importantly from the Archive.org cached copy it's clearly that it said nothing whatsoever about her accent, let alone whether it was "Cockney" as opposed to any other London one.
Secondly, the cited Evening Standard article doesn't say that Allen has a Cockney accent, but rather that elements of Cockney have been assimilated into other London accents, including that in West London where she was born (which automatically makes her not a Cockney, anyway). It specifically states that, in contrast to traditional Cockney, "Lily Allen and Kate Nash reflect a younger urban mode of speech." The current text seems to based on a fundamental misunderstanding of London accents, so I am therefore editing it accordingly. Nick Cooper (talk) 12:53, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- Fully agree. She's even listed at Mockney. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:28, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Stalking case
It's recently come out (April 2016) that Allen was the victim of stalking by a man called Alex Gray for over 7 years, he is currently in jail on charge for burglary and harassment (after finally breaking into Allen's house, harassing her and stealing her handbag). She felt that her case was poorly handled by the Metropolitan Police and claims that they have victim-shamed her. Might this class as a controversy, or perhaps part of her personal life? On 28 September, I submitted an edit request to revert the unsourced genre edits by MDNe. It was reverted but then MDNe changed the genres again along with some other changes. Only some of those changes have been reverted not the genres. I also see that MDNe has been blocked so I don't understand why the genres haven't been changed again since then.
Although I can't think of any specific examples, I think this is not the first time that I have noticed that someone has changed more than one thing and they've got away with some of their changes because only the part they mentioned changing is detected. In my opinion, this is something to be wary of.

No genre
I have been aware since September 2016 that a now blocked user called "Buckfarmer" made changes to Lily Allen's genres on the main page with no validated source. They have since been removed having left the genre section in the background info blank since soon after Buckfarmer's genres including R&B as the first genre which was completely unsourced and not one of original genres on the page. However the genres that been accepted prior to Buckfarmer's vandalism have disappeared. The last time an edit was made that left the genres of Pop, Ska, Reggae fusion and Synthpop alone was made on July 6. I have noticed this happen on a lot of music artist pages where someone has successfully removed or changed genres by putting unsourced information which has been removed but has still resulted in a change from the original. It has become very easy for people to do vandalism and then do more vandalism only for it to be reverted back to their first vandalism which even if the user has been blocked sometimes stays there.
People also but dodgy links in there such as a link claiming to validate that "Mercy" by Shawn Mendes is a song in the Rock genre and a link that claims to verify "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne is a Death metal song but says nothing of the sort if the link is checked. This particularly seems wrong to me because when I tried to make some changes, I was called a "genre warrior". I saw the genre warrior page which suggests that is a very strange thing for people to do and "is done by people who think they know better". This is often true but it often isn't because completely unsourced vandalism is often unnoticed particularly when it is done twice. For some reason people sometimes fail to check that the previous edit was valid and the page becomes stuck with something that has no basis because it has never been properly sourced and accepted. As I said, people are often blocked on here for vandalism but it doesn't always mean all of their vandalism goes away, in this case the removal of all of the genres in the info box on Lily Allen's Wikipedia entry.
If Wikipedia is going to be so critical of all the so called "genre warriors" they should be more careful that links are valid and that every edit done by a blocked user is reverted. I agree that music genres can be subject to debate sometimes but there is no point in including them at all on music artist entries if unsourced inconsistencies between versions of the same page often go unnoticed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.170.146.140 (talk) 12:29, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

The photo of Lily in the infobox has the subheading "Allen in 2011". The photo was actually taken as part of a photoshoot with NME in 2014 around the time Sheezus was released. Can this be corrected to say "Allen in 2014" as opposed to what it currently says? ESelley (talk) 16:37, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
- Not done The photo source says "12 May 2011, 19:39:58" and this is backed up by the camera metadata, so a date of 2014 seems very unlikely. There may have been some problems with the source, so we'd need to check with the contributor User:Kaiketsu. Meanwhile, do have a good source to support 2014 and the "NME"? Thanks. Author
Lily Allen has thrived as a popular singer and songwriter, both in the United States and Europe. Now on September 20th 2018 she is releasing her first book. "My Thoughts Exactly" by Lily Allen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dlmnice (talk • contribs) 03:04, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Dlmnice. Is there a problem with the article? This talk page is not a forum for discussing Lily Allen. Her memoir My Thoughts Exactly is already mentioned in the article under the section 2017–present: No Shame, and has its own article at My Thoughts Exactly. Sexual assault allegation
Why is this not in the article? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7460261/Lily-Allen-accuses-Warner-Music-failing-act-told-sexually-assaulted.html 81.146.44.116 (talk) 16:21, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
- The Daily Mail is not a reliable source. The sexual assault is covered at the article My Thoughts Exactly, the book in which she discussed the incident. — Bilorv (talk) 16:33, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Please check the bottom page of Lily Allen's wikipage. Categories. Look closely. Since she is part of the Category:English feminists category. She needs to be added to the following category, Category:Feminist musicians.

- This is better placed at My Thoughts Exactly if there are additional sources about this (as it's highly contentious material about two living persons). — Bilorv (talk) 21:03, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Sex-positive / Sex-positive feminism thoughts
Hi, I was wondering what people thought about Lily Allen relating to the sex-positive movement and sex-positive feminism. In the following article - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-54712504 - Lily Allen discusses her views on female masturbation. From what I can see it seems her views match that of the sex-positive movement and/or sex-positive feminism. Another person in the interview mentions about talking to her friends about sex positivity. However, the article doesn't explicitly mention that Lily Allen supports the sex-positive movement or is a sex-positive feminist. I have tried to look for articles about her discussing sexuality that explicitly say she supports sex-positivity or sex-positive feminism but I can't find any well-known reliable sources that explicitly mention that she supports these views. I would like to add a section about Lily Allen to the page sex-positive movement and/or sex-positive feminism if applicable, however I think using this source or the other well-known reliable sources I've seen that discuss her views on this would fall under breaking the WP:SYNTHESIS rule as I cannot find any that specifically say she supports these views. Both of these two pages are currently heavily weighted to mentioning people from North America and from what I last saw mention few or no people outside this area that support these views. I was wondering what other people's views on this are and if anyone knows any reliable sources that state whether she supports sex-positivism and/or sex-positive feminism. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated. Helper201 (talk) 21:44, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- You're right about WP:SYNTH—we need quotes directly from her to say that she identifies as a sex-positive feminist or a wide range of reliable sources who use that specific term about her. Someone can hold very similar views to another person but label themselves differently. I don't think it's appropriate to mention her on the other pages you mention but we can maybe talk a bit more about the Womanizer product and what she has said in connection with the topic, since I've seen it getting a lot of media attention. Sex, masturbation and feminism are topics she talks about in My Thoughts Exactly but I think it's already covered in more than enough detail at that article. — Bilorv (talk) 22:05, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. Please let me know if you see any reliable sources that report her as being sex-positive, a sex-positive feminist, or supportive of these views. Helper201 (talk) 22:32, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
