193 or 190 sympohonies?

[edit]

In the paragraph it says 190 symphonies written, but at the bottom it says 193. 71.164.163.155 (talk) 20:44, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it's reported 215 symphonies as of 19th November 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.146.177.131 (talk) 05:58, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to fimic.fi, Segerstam is currently working on symphony 225. Mh234 (talk) 14:20, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated it to 225 and added the "as of" template to try to help in future. This uses the link you gave, thanks. See As of for more on this. Cheers DBaK (talk) 22:11, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We currently say "... which numbered 371 by March 2024", and this is well-sourced, although the list article List of symphonies by Leif Segerstam has only 354. This is why I adjusted the lead text to say "especially known for writing over 300 symphonies". Martinevans123 (talk) 09:32, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
371 seems to be his last... Grimes2 (talk) 12:04, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Known for his symphonies?

[edit]

Actually Segerstam is not known for his symphonies, but for writing such an enormous number of them. I have changed the text accordingly. Opus131 (talk) 04:58, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

Why do we need to cite the pronounciation of his name? How? — Iadmctalk  07:11, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Has now been removed. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:33, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You who may have time to improve: can we let him begin to study before he conducts Stravinsky, please? I'm busy, sorry. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:26, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see that de:wiki says this: "Segerstam studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki until 1963 and at the Juilliard School of Music in New York until 1965 with Louis Persinger, Hall Overton and Vincent Persichetti. Until 1968 he was Kapellmeister of the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, then of the Stockholm Opera. In 1973 he worked at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and then became director of the Helsinki Opera." But we'd need to find sources before adding, so as not to spoil ITN/RD. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:30, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Segerstam's studies and the conducting had been parallel, so no need to rearrange. Grimes2 (talk) 11:25, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Any views on surname pronunciation? Martinevans123 (talk) 11:38, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Swedish: [ˈlɛjf ˈsěːɡɛʂʈam] or Swedish: [ˈlɛjf ˈseːɡɛʂʈam]. We don't have an expert for Swedish IPA. Grimes2 (talk) 11:51, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They always need WP:RS? Martinevans123 (talk) 11:54, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, but its the only way to indicate, that the IPA is possibly wrong. Grimes2 (talk) 12:00, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
