Undue weight

While of course the Raiders' relocation dances have been important events in the history of the franchise, the section on relocations (including ephemeral rumors of the sort that follow many teams and keep many bored sportswriters in jobs) is larger than the section detailing the on-field history of the franchise. This is absurd, and it should be trimmed dramatically. Ravenswing 10:36, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Just split the article in two, one for the LV Raiders, one for Oakland. One would be a subarticle of the other -- 70.51.200.162 (talk) 02:47, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
I think the IP sort of misinterpreted Ravenswing's point, that this issue is basically in regards to WP:RECENTISM. The problem is the currently very long "New stadium proposals and relocation" section. Because the Raiders are now going to Vegas, we no longer need that very extensive coverage of all those other proposed relocations, like to Santa Clara, LA, San Antonio, Concord and San Diego. Or a five-paragraph discussion on Ronnie Lott's proposed replacement stadium for Oakland. In the long-run, they will now just be footnotes in history. If you really want to move some of that content anywhere, there is the new Oakland Raiders relocation to Las Vegas page. Zzyzx11 (talk) 04:35, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Sam Boyd Stadium

From what I read about Sam Boyd Stadium, It technically meets requirements even tjougj it has 35,000 seats but then that would mean the Chargers shouldn't be able to play at the 30,000 seat StubHub Center FlashGaming (talk) 13:03, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

How do you change a title’s name? LegioV (talk) 00:45, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Question

Will the Oakland Raiders become the San Francisco Raiders for one season if they play at Oracle Park? SportsFan007 (talk) 22:20, 4 February 2019 (UTC)SportsFan007

@SportsFan007: Only they can decide that, no one outside the team or league can answer that question. No use to speculate when the could just as easily be California Raiders, or Bay Raiders, or just Raiders or something else entirely. Even their playing at Oracle is still up in the air (Five obstacles in Raiders’ planned path to Giants’ ballpark - February 4, 2019). Yosemiter (talk) 02:38, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Since the team is still playing in the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum should it still say 1995- present instead of 1995-2019 until the move in 2020 is official to the Las Vegas Stadium?Joker4lifead (talk) 04:27, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

In my opinion, the fact that Las Vegas Stadium is planned to open in 2020, by definition means 2019 is the final year the Raiders will play at Oakland Coliseum. Please correct me if I am wrong. SportsFan007 (talk) 05:48, 26 February 2019 (UTC)SportsFan007

In the video in this link, http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001018885/article/raiders-coliseum-authority-reach-agreement-for-2019 made some point about saying should the Las Vegas Stadium runs into problems and can't open on time. The deal the Raiders and the Coliseum Authority are working on finishing up in this week or next week would give them the option to stay in the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum until the as Vegas Stadium opens. That why I was wondering if it should be 1995- present instead of 1995-2019.Joker4lifead (talk) 06:22, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

@SportsFan007 and Joker4lifead: as we cannot predict the future as an absolute, we should keep the "1995–present" until it is not "present". Yosemiter (talk) 23:59, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
@Yosemiter: Thanks for confirming that is should say Oakland Coliseum (1966–1981, 1995–present) until the move in 2020 is official to the Las Vegas Stadium. Joker4lifead (talk) 00:59, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

When to move and rename this article to "Las Vegas Raiders"

When we moved the Rams article from St. Louis to Los Angeles Rams in 2016, and renamed the Chargers article from San Diego to Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, it looks like we only did so when the teams and the league started to officially use the new names, NOT immediately after the end of the previous season. Thus we should do the same here: do not rename the pages until at least the league and the team start using the Las Vegas name. This is especially true given the fact that the Raiders have an option to remain in Oakland in 2020 if their new stadium in Las Vegas is not finished in time.[1] Zzyzx11 (talk) 01:11, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

@Zzyzx11: I think this goes hand in hand with my question about when we should change the team is playing in the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum to Allegiant Stadium. As Yosemiter said as we cannot predict the future as an absolute, we should keep the "1995–present" until it is not "present". The same should go for when we should change the name from the Oakland Raiders to the Las Vegas Raiders or until at least the league and the team start using the Las Vegas name as you suggested. --Joker4lifead (talk) 22:24, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
Yes, and for now anything related to them moving should still be marked as "planned for 2020" or "scheduled". It is not up for Wikipedia editors to jump the gun before it is at least official. Zzyzx11 (talk) 22:42, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

Obviously the Raiders are indeed moving to Las Vegas in 2020. There is an option to remain in Oakland if there is a delay. We know that even though there is a 99.9% chance that they are in Vegas next season, it is important to wait until Mark Davis, the Raiders and the NFL officially confirm the move, which should be confirmed within a matter of weeks. --MusicAndArtFan (talk) 15:25, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

To support what other editors have said, until the team and the NFL start referring to the team as the Las Vegas Raiders, the team remains the Oakland Raiders. As stated at Wikipedia:Article titles#Use commonly recognizable names, Wikipedia "generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)". -- John Broughton (♫♫) 01:43, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
Agree with the consensus here. No need to rush. It certainly shouldn't be changed before the end of the current season. Even though the Raiders' season has ended, the 2019 NFL season is still ongoing, so they are still the Oakland Raiders. If the NFL and Raiders websites are still using Oakland (which they still are as of this writing), as are other secondary sources like ESPN and Fox Sports, then Wikipedia should be as well. --JonRidinger (talk) 02:11, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
And the team has just officially announced its new name. Time to move the page. Raider Duck (talk) 23:22, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
Yep, the page can be moved now. The team has been officially renamed. – PeeJay 23:26, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

NFL.com and raiders.com now list them as Las Vegas Raiders. --2001:A62:19B8:3701:5127:D635:50E3:18AE (talk) 23:55, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Requested move 22 January 2020

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Page moved, snowball close, clear consensus for move, see also the discussion above. The only objection I saw here was to wait until Sunday during the 2020 Pro Bowl, but everything else from the media to the NFL and the Raiders have noted the change. And we also moved the Rams and Chargers articles when they renamed prior to the Pro Bowl too (Rams page moved on 16-Jan-2016[2] before 2016 Pro Bowl on 31-Jan; Chargers page moved on 12-Jan-2017[3] prior to the 2017 Pro Bowl on 29-Jan. Raiders Colors

@Charlesaaronthompson: All sources say Black is the main color, all of their uniforms, media, and apparel have mostly Black, “Silver and Black” is just a nickname, nothing more. SportsFan007 (talk) 22:00, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

The NFL has the colors listed as Silver and Black however, I did find a video on the Raiders website that mentions the colors both as Silver and Black/ Black and Silver. https://www.raiders.com/video/evolution-of-the-raiders-colors-9152691. I also found this article where the man himself calls the colors Black and silver. https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/raiders/some-24-years-later-kings-win-cupin-raiders-colors. With that being said I think the colors should as Al Davis said them. Joker4lifead (talk) 01:47, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Shouldn't the alternate uniform be displayed in the current uniform picture?

The team is using three jerseys, using the alternate jersey as recently as the Oct. 4 Chargers game.--Jeff (talk) 11:12, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

These paragraphs have been bothering me for a few weeks:

Max Winter, a Minneapolis businessman was among the eight proposed franchise owners in the American Football League. In a move typical of the NFL owners who were frightened by the prospect of competition and continually obstructed the new league, they offered Winter an expansion franchise in the NFL. This was after the NFL had rejected Lamar Hunt's feelers, saying they were not interested in expansion. One of many obfuscations put forward by the NFL in its attempt to derail the AFL.

After the AFL's first draft, in which players were selected for the then nameless Minneapolis franchise, Winter reneged from his agreement with the AFL owners and defected to the NFL with a franchise that started play in 1961 and was named the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings were never an AFL team, nor did they have any association with the AFL. Many of the players (including Abner Haynes) that had been assigned to the UNNAMED and defunct Minneapolis AFL franchise were signed by some of the seven loyal remaining members of the AFL's 'Foolish Club'.

Clearly biased language against the NFL that has remained untouched, for some reason, for years. I'd edit it myself, but I forgot my password and foolishly did not tie my account to an email. 2607:FEA8:3BA0:4220:B523:74E5:4916:3931 (talk) 18:07, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
