Landsat 5 will be decommissioned
[edit]according to this news press:
"the USGS Flight Operations Team recently began the process required to safely lower Landsat 5 from its operational orbit. The first series of maneuvers is expected to occur next month.(february 2013)"
I thing an update is required Stimpak (talk) 01:45, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Balance
[edit]There should be less on technical specs of the construction of the first satellite, and more detail on what kind of data the satellites collect, and how it is used. AnonMoos 06:18, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
What the heck is "big dome" in Yosemite National Park? Is this suppose to be "Half Dome"?
Improvement campaign
[edit]I'm taking steps to beef up the Landsat pages a bit. As a first step, I've added a navbox (to more easily facilitate movement throughout the articles related to the Landsat program) and a new Earth Satellite infobox template that I'd like to use to standardize the way that the articles present the high-level information about each spacecraft. I realize that there's a lot more information that can be put in the infoboxes (manufacturer, weight, payload information, decommission dates, etc.) I'd also like to eventually write (or contribute to the development of) articles on the RBV, MSS, TM, and ETM+ instruments. (ETM can probably be skipped since the only operational instrument is on the bottom of the Indian Ocean.) Comments and/or improvements welcome. Seventypercent 05:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Platform and sensor(s)
[edit]The article requires a clearer separation of the platform (Landsat-x) and the sensors mounted on each platform. 83.67.81.27 14:22, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Management?
[edit]This article says that Landsat was initially run by NASA, but it was turned over to NOAA by Carter. The problem is that the Landsat homepage says that it is a NASA/USGS program. Is there some organizational issue that I am missing or is Wikipedia just wrong on this one? SirBob42 (talk) 23:54, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

spatial / spectral / temporal / radiometric resolutions ? and applications ?
[edit]this article is incomplete as it does not mention anything about spatial / spectral / temporal / radiometric resolutions ? and applications ? also sensor systems etc what kind of an encyclopedia is this 111.119.243.90 (talk) 12:01, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Technical details
[edit]I put a tag on the "technical details" section- one glance at the first sentence in the section should explain why. In addition to using terms the average reader may not be familiar with ("invar"? "Hobbs links"?), the section is also ambiguous as to which satellite the details refer to- I doubt the tech details for Landsat 1 are the same as Landsat 8. Finally, I probably should have tagged it with "needs additional citations" as well- there is no indication as to what source these details came from. I don't know that I have the time or sources to improve this section, but I wanted to note it on the talk page in case someone else is up to the task. Cheers! Landsat outputs
[edit]I think that there needs to be more information about the bands on Landsat sensors and what each one helps with in image outputs, and I also think some specific, well known cases where Landsat data has been very helpful in some way would be useful information for this article. Madimamaghani (talk) 07:24, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[1]
Future - Landsat 9
[edit]There has been a lot more information released about the specifics/goals/planned released date of Landsat 9. I plan on adding more about Landsat 9 and how it differs from its predecessors. Jeffcolburn (talk) 15:14, 7 March 2017 (UTC) [1]
