Biased and Unverified Information
[edit]Can someone find out the years for the 5 state titles won? We can add a State titles subsection to the athletics section to make the article longer and more complete. --D 17:03, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm going to start looking into getting more cited information for this article, including athletic State titles. Redshadowing (talk) 19:32, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Most of the facts in this page need verification. Some sections show signs of bias. --D 17:05, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Most of this article appeared to have been put together by a student class or someone from the student body more than 10 years ago. Most of the information was biased and not cited. I'll be doing some research to get the article relevant with cited and verified info. Redshadowing (talk) 19:32, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Serious cleanup needed
[edit]This article needs severe clean-up. The Future Problem Solving and Marching Eagles sections can be condensed, obviously - rather than have sections on the FPS team and the Marching band, I think it would be better to have a section for "Academic Distinctions and Awards" for the distinctions in FPS, music, and other non-athletic areas that Lakeland has won, and a separate section called "Extracurricular activities" detailing what FPS and the bands do in addition to other activities that are offered at Lakeland High School.
Also, improvement can be made on the International Academy section - the phrase "the International Academy West came to Lakeland High School" is incorrect since the IA West is not really a division of Lakeland (as that phrase implies), but a completely separate institution which just happens to share the same building.
It seems primarily that this article has been added to by LHS students who simply want to make their school look better - hence why I tagged it for "peacock terms." I also deleted the LHS Football section since it was beyond help in terms of grammar/style and also because there is already an athletics section; readers of this article only need to know the championships the football team has won and their most recent season records, not a play-by-play of every game. The article has been tagged for grammar and needs some serious grammar and style editing. Beggarsbanquet (talk) 04:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- Most of the article has been removed since it's been 10+ years having unverified and mostly biased information. I would agree the info probably came from either a class project or someone who had recently attended the school or was attending at the time it was written.. I'll be looking to start adding more verified information to the article to make it much more relevant. Redshadowing (talk) 19:39, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, Redshadowing! As one of the coordinators of Wikiproject Schools, I encourage you to do just that. Please keep in mind though, that what is relevant to the school's community is not necessarily what is relevant to an independent encyclopedia article about the school. Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines for school articles and keep in mind the tertiary nature of an encyclopedia. To sum up tertiary, that means we don't write about a given subject such as this school. Instead, we write about what has been written about it in reliable sources, totally independent of the school. If I can be of any assistance, drop a note on my talk page. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 04:36, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the extra information. I'll keep those guidelines and your suggestions in mind for sure. Appreciate the help! Redshadowing (talk) 17:34, 25 May 2017 (UTC)
