Use of he throughout article

[edit]

Based on the fact that the official gender of Kirby is "shrug?", should the article use a gender neutral pronoun? 2600:1700:3674:8090:76:335E:4D90:CD64 (talk) 12:50, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo refers to Kirby as he, so Wikipedia should do the same.[1] Fieryninja (talk) 07:00, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I will be reviewing this now.

Quickfail

[edit]

1. It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria
 Done
2. It contains copyright violations
 Done
Looking over the images four images used in the article 2 of them are in the public domain. The two that are not include a picture of the character which is to be expected with character articles, and the second is an image of the game Kirby's Dream Land while I personally disagree with it's inclusion the rational is fine, so it passes.
3. It has, or needs, cleanup banners that are unquestionably still valid. These include cleanup, POV, unreferenced or large numbers of citation needed, clarify, or similar tags.
 Done
The article has no maintenance tags.
4. It is not stable due to edit warring on the page.
 Done
Checking the revision history no edit wars in the past month atleast. There is some vandalism, but not in the past week, if any should appear during my review I will revert it and request page protection. Overall it passes.

5. It has issues noted in a previous GA review that still have not been adequately addressed, as determined by a reviewer who has not previously reviewed the article  Done
The page has significantly improved since the last GA review

The proper review

Spotchecks

[edit]

So first I will start with a few basic spot checks. I have randomlly selected refs, 5, 12, and 44.

REF 5
[edit]

Claim: "Satoru Iwata added that Kirby was given a simple, circular design so that anyone would be able to draw him" Source: [2] Proven by source: Satoru Iwata does indeed say that however later in the same interview he states that the simplicity makes him hard to draw. Backed up by other sources: [3], the claim is made in a BBC article that says it was stated in Negative World, which I am not familiar with, but none the less other sources do agree with this claim.

REF 12

[edit]

Claim: Kumazaki said that the more battle-ready appearance is intended to appeal to a wider audience in North America, based on feedback and market research from Nintendo of America Source: [4] Proven by source: Kumazaki does say in the article that the angry design is more appealing in the west Backed up by other sources: [5]

REF 44

[edit]

Claim: In Ultimate he plays a starring role in the "World of Light" story mode in which he is the only survivor of Galeem's massacre out of all of the other fighters. Sakurai stated that, after a process of elimination, Kirby was the obvious choice due to his Warp Star providing a reasonable explanation for his escape Source: [6] Proven by source: Yes the source claims that Kirbys survived due to the warp star as it was the most logical decision. Backed up by other sources: Yes, [7] the source itself cites this source.

Criteria One:Well-written

[edit]

1. So knowing very little about Kirby I read the article and understand the basic idea of the character. It does comply with the manual of style.

Verifiable with no original research

[edit]

1. There is no original research. I addressed this in the spot checks. None of the sources are unreliable when put in a copyvio checker I did find a false alarm, that page took from wikipedia. No violations

Broad in its coverage

[edit]

Clear consise covers everything neccesary with proper links in places.

Stable

[edit]

It does face occasional vandalism but thats to be expected and all vandals are typically reverted within minutes.

Illustrated

[edit]

No copy right violations in the images all proper sourrcing is used. It is difficult to include more images given the topic of the article but other wise I think the page is great and can be promoted.

ALT1 ... that Kirby was designed simply so that children could draw him with ease? Thriley (talk) 05:03, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Thriley and OlifanofmrTennant: Hello, the hook language does not appear in our article. I see the BBC is given as a source for the hook above, but the BBC article is not in the references of our article. The BBC stated: Negative World noted: "Kirby has a great design. He's expressive, iconic, instantly-recognisable, and easy for kids to draw. The closest related material I can find in our article is Satoru Iwata added that Kirby was given a simple, circular design so that anyone would be able to draw him. So please add the hook to the Kirby (character) article along with the BBC reference. Bruxton (talk) 14:57, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, Have not heard from anyone for four days so I went ahead and added the BBC reference and hook to the article to comply with DYKCRIT Bruxton (talk) 15:37, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cukie Gherkin: What do you mean by "more neutral pose" here? This new image is perfectly fine, but I can't figure out what the problem was with the old one. QuicoleJR (talk) 18:25, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

it wasn't bad per se, but having Kirby standing in a neutral pose makes it easier to convey to the reader his design. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 21:27, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. QuicoleJR (talk) 21:30, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
