While mircales are perfromed by Prophets (God creates the miracle) karamaat are extraordinary things created by God for the Awliyaa. Only prophets perform Miracles in Islamic belief. Awliyya' are Muslims who are not Prophets and have reached through knowledge and proper practice of Islamic religion a high rank of "piety". Karamaat are not like a magic trick that can be learnt and performed on demand, rather, it is an edowment from God, Who creates it in suppport to his Waliy.
