There are 2 versions of Embiid at Kansas; 2 opinions as to which is best; check them out and we'll have a consensus decision; I think the one used now is much too dark and doesn't show his features. Thanx Mwinog2777 (talk).

The National Team Career section is outdated as 2017 Afrobasket already occurred and Embiid did not play. I suggest the sentence about the tournament in August be removed or edited to acknowledge that the tournament happened and that Embiid did not participate. 2600:1:F45F:D84:B9D6:FA4A:CCEA:5D7 (talk) 19:34, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any source for Embiid being a Teetotaler?

[edit]

The source used in his personal life section cites and ESPN Profile on him, but the only relevant part of the article is the sentence "So Embiid doesn't drink alcohol or spend much time at parties", which in context seems to be conveying more that Joel Embiid isn't much for nightlife as opposed to a literal "he abstains from alcohol". Is there any other source for the claim I'm missing?

Citizenship

[edit]

According to MOS:NATIONALITY, I believe he should be listed as Cameroonian and American. He's spent the past 12 years in the US and has recently naturalized. He has also committed to playing for Team USA in the upcoming olympics. Duppppy (talk) 10:27, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Duppppy - I'm curious to know if he actually still holds Cameroonian citizenship. I believe the country does not allow/recognize dual or multiple citizenship. Unless something's changed to the laws, in the past, I've heard of at least one Cameroonian-born athlete who raised questions because they were said to have French citizenship but were somehow able to still represent Cameroon as a national/citizen. Football Fandom

[edit]

The article mentions Embiid is a Real Madrid supporter, which is accurate, but he is a major supporter of Arsenal FC as well. He refers to himself as a "Gunner" (Arsenal fan) regularly when discussing football.

Triple citizenship

[edit]

From what I gather, Cameroonian laws do not allow/recognize a citizen possessing multiple citizenship Source pp 79 and 84. The government of Canada notes that Cameroon does not recognize dual citizenship[1]

Was he made an exception or are those laws only on paper and citizenship may still be valid/not taken away? I'm assuming if he does hold three passports, he was made an exception? I've recalled at least one athlete from Cameroon who raised questions about whether they really could represent the country because it was revealed they became a naturalized citizen of France.

EDIT: This July 2020 article notes that there has been attempts to change their nationality laws,[2] so I'm assuming that's been passed now? Clear Looking Glass (talk) 08:26, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What a country recognizes is a different matter from whether an individual has multiple citizenships.—Bagumba (talk) 17:07, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling and date format

[edit]

Is there still an argument for using non-U.S. spelling and date format? Since those tags were added he became a U.S. citizen and started playing for the U.S. basketball team in the Olympics. Seems like MOS:TIES would apply. CWenger (^@) 18:22, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He still maintains ties with Cameroon, so MOS:RETAIN would suggest just leaving as is. —Bagumba (talk) 04:37, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why Embiid refused to represent France at the Olympics, and why he got booed by the french public, is political: it's about the french presence in Africa.
