Ruling classes
[edit]The almost certainly apocryphal story of the incident at the battle of Doornkop would have nothing to do with "a dislike for the British ruling classes". If the story was true it would be an element in his dislike of the army. I have my doubts about the story as the shooting to reluctant soldiers is not something done in the British army, and there were no trenches or "going over the top" at Doornkop, where the advance was over open ground.101.98.74.13 (talk) 00:59, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

It seems that the problem here is that the article quotes 6 points from White's address to a Sinn Fein club in 1936--for which possible copyright infringement an alternative source to the one provided--without putting them in block quotation (although the existing formatting does indent them as quotation). I will put the quoted material in block quotation and add the second source.ManfredHugh (talk) 15:21, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

NO--just look at https://spanishcivilwar.tripod.com/jwhite2.htm.. The only connection to this page that is reproduces an address that the subject of the article Jack White gave in 1936, and from which this page, at one point, quotes citing as the source on another webpage that does exactly the same thing, reproducing the original 1936 address. S Philbrick, please check and compare the two pagesManfredHugh (talk) 16:08, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

To avoid any confusion I have now summarised, rather than quoted, White's 6-point programme.ManfredHugh (talk)
Move and possible copyvio
[edit]Hey @ManfredHugh: Thanks for expanding this article, adding sources and dealing with some of its issues. I notice you created a new article and changed the original to a redirect, rather than moving the article, which created a few issues that I have attempted to fix. (I'm honestly not sure why the rename needed to happen, as you didn't discuss your proposed change on any talk page before making them)
I also just ran this article through Earwig's copyright violation tool and found some sections that appear to be copied directly from a source:[1]. To be specific, a substantial amount of the "Later years and death" section and a few sentences from the "Communist affiliations and Belfast protests" section are copied word-for-word from Kevin Doyle's WSM article. Would you be able to rewrite these parts? Grnrchst (talk) 07:27, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Grnrchst for the above. I am sorry, but redirecting to a new article is the only way I knew of dropping the misleading designation of White as a "trade unionist". As I noted in creating the new page, although he volunteered to help the ITGWU in the 1913 lockout by helping create the Citizen Army, he doesn't appear to have a history of workplace organising or union office. Carried over from the original article I can see that in "Last years and death" there are some sentences from Doyle's article and I will try identify those in the section "Communist affliations" and make changes. ~~~ ManfredHugh (talk) 08:12, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
Review
[edit]@ManfredHugh, nice expansion! Once the copyright violation issues have been addressed (all source text should be paraphrased in your own voice), I'd like to encourage you to nominate the article for Good article status, if you didn't already have it in mind. czar 00:25, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
