[edit]

The justification of including a process in this section would be the use in an industrial context, rather than a laboratory of a workshop. It would be nice to show how developments gave us better processes and how similar principles can be used for different materials. We should keep this article for this historical development and put the detail in individual articles about the process itself. Those articles should show how they are applied in an industrial context, or should be moved to a different category. There could be a lot of work here! Organization by product created

[edit]

We ought to group articles by the products they create. Most people who're looking in this article are not going to know the process's name, or they'd be looking up the process directly, so we should lead in on something they will recognize. ie:

[edit]

Most processes have fine tolerances for optimal production, and require extensive monitoring during the production process.

In most cases, the processes which are most economical are continous flow operations; for example the large-scale creation of paper or glass.

It may involve more than one step, which may be described in more than one article.

Thank you authors

[edit]

I'd just like to thank the authors for a to-the-point, concise and informative article. It was exactly what I needed. Well done on covering all points. This is the most useful and cut-to-the-chase article I have seen on Wikipedia. --Will James 10:04, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed move

[edit]

Based on this article's format and content, it really is more of a list than an article. I suggest renaming it List of industrial processes per Wikipedia:Lists_(stand-alone_lists)#Naming_conventions. Does anyone have any reservations about me performing the move? Jminthorne (talk) 04:37, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense to me. Go for it! Wizard191 (talk) 14:21, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Jminthorne (talk) 00:46, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Next question

[edit]

Now that we have moved this page to a list, is it worthwhile to create an article at Industrial Process, which now redirects here? I honestly am not sure what additional information such a page would supply that isn't already on this list. Jminthorne (talk) 00:58, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No. I would leave industrial process redirect here. I think it works out best this way. Wizard191 (talk) 13:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think an article can be written mentioned general aspects of industrial processes, even if it's just a short one. It might take a process engineer or industrial engineer to do it. H Padleckas (talk) 03:23, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changing lists?

[edit]

So, looking at the bottom-bars (what are those things called?), there are some better lists of things being kept at Separation processes which has Distillation as a kind of sub-category. Those are particularly hard to navigate, however. (ie: where does smelting cross link into those?) Non-intuitive.
And they don't help you match products to processes. ie: Learn something new. If you already know the process name, why're you not on the specific process page?
That said, it'd be nice if we could just piggy-back on the work being done on those lists/organizational schemes, instead of running around trying to tag things individually.
Your thoughts?

Arguably this should be a category, rather than a list of. A lot of "list of" entries seem to morph into categories over time. Riventree (talk) 23:56, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List again

[edit]

This article title had been changed to LIST several years ago. This clearly is a list so the title should be "List of Industrial Processes". Rlsheehan (talk) 20:10, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Does this article need sources?

[edit]

I thought, that since it's a list article, giving an overview of articles it wouldn't need sources, since they could be found in the articles that are listed. What do you think, could we remove the warning?

PS: I'm very new to Wikipedia (joined yesterday), I am happy for any advice.
