Since Sandy is at the main page because she is the only storm of her name, should Rafael be at the main page for that same reason? Rye998 (talk) 23:10, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to be the only Rafael worldwide, so I'll file a request at WP:RM just after this post. (FWIW, Rafael is a masculine name.) --Dylan620 (I'm all ears) 02:06, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, after taking a quick reread of the instructions at RM, I'll instead tag the intended target (Hurricane Rafael) for deletion under WP:CSD#G6. --Dylan620 (I'm all ears) 02:10, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, User:Hurricanehink took care of things before I could tag the original target. --Dylan620 (I'm all ears) 02:15, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The difference is that Sandy is almost certain to be retired, while Rafael won't be. CrazyC83 (talk) 17:47, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The same exact thing happened to Hurricane Rina (2011, which was not retired), and there was no consensus reached. I guess we will just have to move this article to Hurricane Rafael (2012) in six years (or whenever there is another Rafael – which could be a while)! –– Anonymouse321 (talkcontribs) 04:34, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Being retired has little, if any, regards as to whether or not the article should be at the main page in the case of storms like this. Rafael isn't guranteed to be in use again until 2018, and even then, there is no gurantee that year will get to 18 named storms. Not every season gets that far, but the last 3 years were lucky enough to do so. In the unlikely event there is another Hurricane Rafael in the future (like if there is another Hurricane King in the future), then the article can be moved again. Rye998 (talk) 16:31, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I totally agree – we should leave it how it is and change it if/when there is another Hurricane Rafael. –– Anonymouse321 (talkcontribs) 16:47, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
