Merge request (2006) Honda Legend with Acura Legend and Acura RL
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
no merge
The rationale for the merge request is that the standards adopted by WikiProject Automobiles specify that an article on a given model should be named the way the model is named in the home market. Acura Legend and Acura RL are American-market-only nameplates applied to the same car (made it the same factory) known elsewhere, including its "home" Japanese market, as Honda Legend. Therefore, it is only logical to have all the models and generations described as Honda Legend, with redirects and explanation of North American marketing.
Please also note that Honda Legend has already been marked as Category:Executive cars. Acura RL has not been sold in Europe as such, so it generally cannot be labelled as an executive car, while the category would add it to the list of executive cars, creating the impression that both Legend and RL were sold in the markets where the "executive car" classification functions.

- Agreed. This is the most logical arrangement. Go ahead and do it. ProhibitOnions (T) 19:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- STRONGLY disagree - The naming scheme you qualify as being "adopted" by WikiProject Automobiles was, in fact, not agreed upon. The Acura RL and Legend were far, far more popular than the Honda Legend, the cars were designed primarily for the North American market, and as such the articles at Acura Legend and Acura RL should be maintained where they are. If anything, the content from Honda Legend should be integrated into the Acura Legend article, and Honda Legend made a redirect. --93JC 01:06, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Raise the issue at the WikiProject then (I mean the general one, not the Acura/Honda thing) Bravada, talk - 01:12, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree. Even if the Legend/RL is sold as an Acura in the US and Canada, it's still called the Honda Legend in Europe, Japan, Australia.
Its a respected nameplate in Europe, Japan, and Australia, and it's not some made-up brand called Acura.
- I Disagree also; Honda Legend is very established in its own right, and the countries that car was and is sold in may not even know of the Acura nameplate. Leave Honda Legend info as it is, since it is definitely unique, and there were a lot of differences between the models and options to make differentiation necessary.
- Also STRONGLY disagree as per above. The badges "H" (Honda) and "A" (Acura) may be the only discernable and visible differences, but the impact that each car version has had on its respective country is enough warrant that each maintain its own article. It is still a very unique concept that Honda felt the need create an all new company in America in order to market a beautiful car that was sold as an everyday man's Honda back in Japan. This distinguishes the difference between a Honda Legend and an Acura Legend. --Djbroox 04:39, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Disagree, as per above. Both articles should be maintained separately, and link to each other.
Agreed. Every Acura RL is a Honda Legend but not every Honda Legend is an Acura RL.Undeuxtroiskid 21:09, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- STRONGLY disagree. As per above, Honda Legend, Acura Legend, and Acura RL should not be merged and should be maintained seperatly.Hondasaregood

Merge conclusion
[edit]After months of debating the proposed merger (Way past the ordinary limit, by the way.), the result seems to be to leave the articles seperate. Accordingly, I have removed the merge tag.Hondasaregood 08:13, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
1990-1995
[edit]The 1990-1995 Honda Legend models sold in asian markets were available with a 5 speed manual and 6 speed manual regardless or sedan or coupe. And a 6 speed manual and 4 speed auto only being offered 1996-2001. Im sure a 5 speed manual and 6 speed manual was also offered in the american derivetive from 1991-1995. Future.
[edit]I have searched and searched, but I cannot find any sources that validate the supposed next generation Honda V6 set to debut in the Legend that purportedly develops upwards of 400 BHP. Can anyone provide a source on this? ClementZEat (talk) 22:37, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- With regards to Honda working on a V8 with hybrid technology, I found this article specifically mentioning the rebirth of the NSX NSX V8 hybrid, so there could be unconfirmed reports in Japanese media that could have mentioned the Legend/RL. The current generation RL is due for a complete redesign, based on past practices of generation updates. I know that this doesn't specifically mention the Legend, but Honda is probably trying to keep a lid on things, despite demands from Wikipedia Auto Project demands for absolute sources.(Regushee (talk) 23:14, 24 October 2011 (UTC))

The Legend was not the first Japanese car without an electronic power restrictions, there have been so many Japanese cars that were nowhere near the self imposed limit, that they did not require any restriction.
− − The comment regarding a V8 makes so sense. It's not a V8 erm...that does not seem relevant, it's not a V12 or turbocharged either - should we list ever single feature that the engine does not have?
