Could the expression "holy cow" be a reference to hinduism? Cows are actually considered holy in hinduism.
I heard it was adapted from the French "Sainte Vache!", which is a blasphemous reference to the Virgin Mary. Rhinoracer 13:28, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Should this be a page unto itself? I think that merging this with other "common" phrases (probably English-specific) would be a good idea. Regardless of whether or not the page is moved, though, the contents here definitely require some editing. GnomeWorks 23:41, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Why Cow is holy animal? Because she give us Milk, means she give us a life(energy). That is the main reason people use this word "holy cow". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.89.177.115 (talk) 01:27, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Holy cow (expression) → Holy cow! – Per WP:NATURAL and WP:SMALLDETAILS. The expression is usually depicted with an exclamation point. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 06:02, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- Support!, per nom. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:03, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - per MOS:EXCLAMATION. Primergrey (talk) 00:46, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
- That only applies to text within the body of an article, not the article's title.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 07:07, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose, not the way interjections are titled, including many with parentheticals: Eureka (word), Hey (interjection), Geronimo (exclamation), etc. Not that those show consistency, but nothing in Category:Interjections is titled this way. Dekimasuよ! 16:56, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- Well, that's an outright lie, since D'oh!, ¡Santiago! and Awake iron! all exist. Therefore, pointing to "precedent" doesn't really prove anything.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 12:00, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what the purpose of being uncivil is here. Anyone can click on the link to the category and see for themselves. I missed D'oh!. I doubt anyone would argue that "holy cow" belongs in the "battle cries" subcategory (FWIW "awake iron" does not exist in English outside Wikipedia, with or without an exclamation point).
