Reviewer: Kosack (talk · contribs) 13:57, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take this one on, will post review as soon as possible. Kosack (talk) 13:57, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Initial review

Infobox

[edit]
  • Out of interest, where are his Lebanon under-20 stats coming from as I can't see any other mention of it other than here?
Done I also forgot where I found the statistics, then I remembered that I took them from Transfermarkt. I have removed them. Nehme1499 (talk) 14:52, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • It's up to you if you want to keep a link to Lebanon in the lead as as argument could be made that's it's not particularly obvious so WP:OVERLINK may not apply. However, if you are going to keep it, link Lebanese in the opening sentence rather than the mention in the second paragraph.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:03, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "He won a total of 11 trophies for his team" > 11 trophies with his team.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:03, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:03, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Maatouk scored a total of 20 goals for his country", past tense? Has he stopped playing internationally?
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:03, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • There's potential for expansion here for the national team, qualifying for their first ever Asian Cup for example.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:03, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2004-05: Debut Season

[edit]
  • "Maatouk scored three goals in the 2005 AFC Cup" > Maatouk also scored...
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:06, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • The final sentence here can be adjoined to the one above, no need for it to be out on its own.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:06, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "as well as a Lebanese FA Cup", this could be expanded on. "as well as helping his side win the Lebanese FA Cup after defeating Olympic Beirut 2-1 in the final"?
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:06, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2005–09: First league title and domestic treble

[edit]
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:09, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "as well as being nominated Player of the Season" > as well as being nominated for the Player of the Season Award? Also, the source provided (15) doesn't seem to support this as it only shows awards he won during the 2009-10 season.
Done I seem to have confused the 2008-09 award with the 2009-10 one. Nehme1499 (talk) 15:09, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2011–12: First season in the UAE Pro League

[edit]
  • "he scored six goals for his club, as well as a brace on his club debut", can drop the second use of club here.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:10, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2012–13: Second season in the UAE Pro League

[edit]
  • Probably worth pointing out that he never played for Emirates Club.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:12, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2013–14: UAE First Division

[edit]
  • Section is a little short to be under a heading of its own. If it can't be expanded I'd merge it with the one below.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:19, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Source for promotion?
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:19, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2014–16: Promotion and stay in the UAE Pro League

[edit]
  • Final sentence of the second paragraph is unsourced.
 Done Nehme1499 (talk) 15:21, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

International career

[edit]
  • End of the section is unsourced.

References

[edit]
  • There are quite a few authors, publishing dates and accessdates that are missing here, ref 54 for example just states LebanonFG? What's that?
LebanonFG is a website (lebanonfg.com). I have personal contacts with the author of the website, however he didn't mention that particular statistic on his website. Would simple citing the website be enough, or should it be removed completely? Nehme1499 (talk) 15:33, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If the website isn't supporting the information then it's not really doing what it's been put there for. Kosack (talk) 20:34, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Some of these references seem potentially unreliable, refs 15 and 65 for example appear to be blogs? Ref 85 seems to be a betting website.

Comments

[edit]

A tidy article, nothing major just a few points to adjust. The references do need a tidy and there a couple of possibly questionable sources that need to be addressed. Placed on hold for now. Kosack (talk) 14:32, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kosack thanks for reviewing the article, I hugely appreciate it! Everything should be fixed, except the issue about "LebanonFG" and the missing info in some references. Nehme1499 (talk) 15:34, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the slight wait, I'll go through this again later tonight or tomorrow to see how we're looking! Kosack (talk) 18:20, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There are still a few outstanding issues with the references. LebanonFG was only an example I picked out, there are numerous refs that have information missing that is readily available such as authors, publishing dates, etc. These need to be fleshed out to provide proper attribution. Kosack (talk) 20:34, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kosack don't worry, I'm not in a rush. I appreciate the fact that you are investing your time to review the article, so take all the time you need! I should have sorted out everything now. If there are other problems please let me know. Nehme1499 (talk) 00:02, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nehme1499: I've done another quick run through and some minor copyediting just to tidy some last loose ends. I think we're in much better shape than when we started now and I'm happy the article now meets the GA criteria. Promoting. Kosack (talk) 18:57, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Kosack: I can't thank you enough for what you have done! Very professional, quick and efficient. Thanks again, and hopefully we can collaborate again in the near future. Nehme1499 (talk) 21:26, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, the hard work was all yours! Kosack (talk) 05:34, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Maatouk training with Lebanon in 2018
Maatouk training with Lebanon in 2018

Improved to Good Article status by Nehme1499 (talk). Self-nominated at 21:21, 8 July 2019 (UTC).[reply]

@MJL: The problem is that "most expensive transferred player" would make it sound as if the club had payed $900,000 over three years to his previous club. The "record" is just related to the player's wage. Nehme1499 (talk) 00:46, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nehme1499: Good point. I'll withdraw that hook suggestion. MJLTalk 00:54, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: I’m not sure what aspects of his personal life could be considered notable or interesting. He has a wife and a child, but I know that from social media. Not sure what you would be looking for here. Nehme1499 (talk) 00:21, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Many biographies have a "Personal life" section which mentions basic information about their non-professional lives, such as family members or other aspects. The article didn't seem to have one when I checked, which is why I asked. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:23, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah ok I see, I thought you had suggested using a fact from his personal life as an alternative hook for the nomination. I will add a “Personal life” section in case I were able to find something. Nehme1499 (talk) 00:33, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the addition, although I think the wording could be improved a little bit. How about something like Maatouk and his wife Sahar have a daughter named Fatima.[78][77]? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:03, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to review this article, but I don't know if @Narutolovehinata5: is planning on reviewing it. SL93 (talk) 22:18, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to do a review of this either later today or tomorrow, but if I am unable to do so, you are free to take over. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:33, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Almost ready go to: article was promoted to GA status on time, other DYK article criteria are met. No QPQ needed for first-time nominator. The first hook is probably the best option as it's probably his main claim to fame; the information is cited inline and verified. My suggestion on a personal life section has been addressed: @Nehme1499: however, is there no other known information about his life, such as his childhood, education, or information about why he decided to pursue a career as a footballer? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:53, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It’s pretty much impossible to find such information about a Lebanese footballer (without falling into OR). The only way I can find anything regarding his early years, education ecc... is for me to directly contact him (or someone in between) but that would mean that the phrase would be unsourced on wiki. Nehme1499 (talk) 10:33, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously it would be a benefit to have as much information as possible but it's not a requirement for it. His notability comes from his career as a footballer which is detailed adequately. I'm AGF that the nominator conducted searches for as much information as possible given the chance of finding English language sources on this player are slim. Kosack (talk) 11:11, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just a detail, would it be preferred to wait for the player to reach 21 goals, and actually be the sole top-scorer of the national team? He is bound to score one goal sooner or later, so it would be better in my opinion to wait until he breaks the record to promote it to DYK. Nehme1499 (talk) 15:53, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5 @Kosack Nehme1499 (talk) 23:41, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia isn't a crystal ball, so it's not really practical to wait for him to break the record before featuring him on the main page. He could break the record tomorrow, next month, or next year, so until that happens, it's for the best to go with the current wording. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:36, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what this was waiting for, but as the GA reviewer has responded, and all three hooks (ALT0, ALT1 and ALT2) are stated in the article and directly cited (AGF on the source for ALT0), the hooks are approved. (I edited the article a little so it now says "With this goal Maatouk became Lebanon's joint top scorer, equaling Roda Antar's tally of 20 goals", making the 20 goals of ALT0 explicit.)
