New Great Western Bank

Founded 1919?

Sometime in the 1980s or early 90s, Great Western aired a number of TV commercials (viewable on YouTube) celebrating "its 100th year as part of the West" and featuring its iconic spots with John Wayne. Public domain photo available

As a part of the National Centers for Environmental Information image database showing the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge earthquake, there is a high resolution public domain photograph (TIFF format) of a Great Western administrative building that could be used for Wikipedia if it properly cropped in Photoshop or Gimp. There could be additional photos at this website.

– There has to be a clearer way to disambiguate these titles than by the years which they were/are in business. I tried looking at WP:NCCOMP for ideas, but found nothing ... not even guidance to retain the current disambiguators. I tried looking up titles that end with "company)" and titles that end with "bank)", and ran across no precedence there either. At this point, the only thought I have in the matter is to somehow include "California" and "South Dakota" in their disambiguators, respectively ... but even that doesn't seem to have a policy-based precedence. • Comment - @Steel1943: Instead of distinguishing the two banks by years (which I also find very confusing, especial when both organizations are currently defunct and would become more confusing when time goes on), I would suggest the use of the names of their respect corporate parents as the name of the articles, i.e. Great Western Financial and Great Western Bancorp, similar to what is currently done with First Interstate BancSystem and First Interstate Bancorp which both use the identical trade name of First Interstate Bank in different geographical regions. (BTW, if you need examples of articles that use geographical locations to distinguish different banks that use the same name, go look at the disambiguation page First National Bank.) -- 108.71.214.235 (talk) 06:00, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
