The article says that the USA then "got in on it" ie, making their version of the show, however its the Americans who started it, several years before the UK!TR (talk) 06:14, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Defunct

I, like an easy 99% of Wikipedian users, came to this article looking for the Roman Gladiator entry, I think having a short lived television show taking the main page is a moot concept and quite annoying considering most people would be coming for Gladiators (proper). Perhaps we should setup Gladiators_(tv_show) may be the best method of avoiding this confusion? Jachin 21:39, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Not at all. The show was hardly "short lived" (it ran for 7-8 years at least). This page is fine as it stands, the other article is under another heading and a note is made for it here. That's enough! 74.65.39.59 20:20, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

I searched "Roman Gladiator" and it took me to "Roman Gladiator" so I don't see what the problem is.

Possible Mix-up?

After watching a repeat on Challenge, I saw the gladiator Nightshade fall awkwardly and hurt her neck on the game, "Tilt". However, it says she left for another reason, and Panther was the one who fell in "Tilt". Could someone please clarify this for me? WhoIzzet 16:08, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Gladly, Nightshade was not injured on Tilt badly. Nightshade caught an illness whilst filming in Australia as part of the Ashes series, and was never the same afterwards. In 1996 she was simply too ill to carry on. Panther however was injured quite badly on Tilt, but carried on as part of the show regardless.

Quality

This is a pretty terrible article. Spelling/grammar errors, weasel words, author's POV throughout. I suggest it's tagged at least for cleanup.

Perhaps some specific ideas for cleanup:

1) A season-by-season account of this TV show is not appropriate in my opinion. The epic lists of contestants that surely no-one cares about and the lists of gladiators, presenters, referees and commentators *per season* is repeated information in the majority.

2) There are a lot of weasel words in areas such as: "thought of as the best series by many fans due to the impressive calibre of contenders."

3) Comments like: "These shows were notable in that it was the only time that Panther played Pyramid and the only time that Zodiac and Vogue played Joust." are just too bizarre. The original author has an interesting definition of notable.

This article could (and in my opinion should) be reduced to a short description, a list of gladiators (including when they arrived and left), a list of events (when they were competed), controversies, international franchise and not a great deal else. At least then it would be possible to read! Docta247 10:24, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I've left it a few weeks and haven't really got a reply to this. I will leave a few more days for objections but otherwise I will be seriously overhauling this article. Additions and Revisions

Please do not change this page unless discussing it first. I have just had to replace all pictures which takes a huge amount of time. The images add to the article and are a important part of it. Many Thanks GladFanJ 12:32, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Bloat

This article is both bloated and, to a fair extent, a mess.

In particular, there's no real reason that the list of gladiators should be as it is rather than a simple table. I've redone it as such at Talk:Gladiators/rewrite. The only question is whether we want to keep the images, and if so, how. (Yes, I have told GladFanJ he/she/it doesn't own the article, but thought I'd hold back a bit anyway.)

No doubt the "Gladiators Series and Shows" section could be made more concise as well, but that's another piece of work. -- Smjg 13:11, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree, this article needs significant work. There is no consideration for what a reader might be looking for so the article ends up impossibly long. Lots of personal observations on events and people, repeated information. Does anybody else think a now-finished TV series of debatable notability merits a far more compact article? Sprawling lists

I added the {{cleanup-laundryrack}} tag to the page. Other such lists have been placed on their own pages - I suggest a similar thing for this list. It's very hard to read this article for all the lists.

I liked the information about each series, has it been moved to other article/s, or has it been removed completely?

There are already individual series pages for the latter series, maybe the same could be made for the earlier ones?

John Anderson

172.201.194.60 (talk) states that, according to "the gladiators annual":

An alumnus of the University of Strathclyde the university changed its main campus from John Logie Baird campus to the John Anderson campus in his honour in 1999.

While an amusing idea, and whether or not it was in some version of some annual, it's nonsense. The University was founded by John H. D. Anderson, and as such is a slightly more likely candidate to give his name to the campus. Music
