Intricate detail?
[edit]Someone has tagged this as having too much detail which i do not think is correct. This was a series that ran for 8 years and pulled in millions of viewers (14m during the peak years) and thus made a significant cultural impact. There are Lady Gaga songs that have longer articles than this and probably contain unnecessary intricate detail! Did this intricate detail warning apply to stuff that has since been removed as I think the level of detail is right. (and apols if I have put this in the wrong place!)Aquaplex (talk) 23:45, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

I think the gladiators should be split into two coloums being male and female gladiators--Andrewcrawford (talk) 21:57, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- On my test pages i have started making a proper page so any comment on it will eb welcome it will b e complete soon Test version of list of original gladiators episode I am also proposing making a page for all the original uk gladiators and page for all the original gladiators events
Well, there is an example of what I think each episode should look like. This is the first episode of the first series. the coloured boxes are the shirt the contender wore. The black fonts in the women's contender wikitable represents one of the two lines in their shorts shorts they wore with the other line the colour of the shirt they wore and the coloured fonts in the men's contender wikitable represent the colour of the shorts they wore. Underneath the wikitables, in the After ? events, the coloured letters represents the colour of the shirt the contender wore and the black numbers represents one of the two lines in their shorts they wore with the other line the colour of the shirt they wore while the coloured numbers represent the colour of the shorts the male contenders wore. And underneath the events in the episode are two wikitables which is the leader board. Add them on the Episode 6 section, add the full name of the contender, the number of the episode the contender won and the number of points the contender scored on their episode.

Having made the first break on the first net, Vivene lead until she reached the travelator where she tripped three times and on the third time Vivene tripped, Nicola made it up the travelator and onto the leader board. Weininger who wore a black Gladiators t-shirt underneath his shirt lead Jeremy by eight points earning him a four second head start. Weininger lead throughout and won. What do you think? Wonderwizard (talk) 17:58, November 4th 2014 (UTC)
- I'm afraid this looks a bit too excessive for this article, mate. GUtt01 (talk) 11:13, 6 February 2017 (UTC)#
Agreed. Too much detail for Wikipedia. If there was a separate Gladiators wiki then I'd say yes. I think the only info needed are the contenders (with winners marked) and the events that appeared. (Aquaplex (talk) 21:16, 23 July 2017 (UTC))
Legends
[edit]nice idea andrew. could i ask where the info came from about the legends, it has not be on this month to my knowledge? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.155.23.217 (talk) 14:10, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

The elephant in the room
[edit]So much in the article but a glaring ommission: for people like me who didn't watch the show, what was the point of it? What exactly did the gladiators and contenders have to do? Valenciano (talk) 10:59, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- What they did or what teh show was about is in the article maybe not clearly explained but it is there.--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 11:45, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry I don't see it. There's the lead which tells us who presents the show, a list of gladiators without mentioning what their purpose is, a list of events again without mentioning what they were for then a bit about contenders, controversies, specials and sponsorship none of which tells the uninitiated what the show was all about. Compare with for example Bullseye (UK game show) where it is mentioned in the lead followed by a clear explanation of how the game is structured. In any event per WP:LEAD a description of what gladiators is about should be the first thing to be there. Valenciano (talk) 13:28, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- It is there unless osmeone removed it, but unless it can be sourced then there no point addng it, the show and what it was about is just ha bit and bobs all over the article but ia gree with you it isnt clear so anyoen an see
--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 13:55, 6 January 2010 (UTC)----
- Have a look, it definitely isn't there you're right that it's probably been removed and I can't be bothered going through the back history to find it. There's every point in adding it as otherwise the article itself is pointless since readers won't have a clue what it is about. Imagine an article on a sport where you have a list of teams and competitions without mentioning exactly how the sport is played and you'll see the problem. Lack of sourcing won't be an issue as the subject of a game show is hardly a controversial topic likely to be challenged. I just searched similar articles and the lead and main body of American Gladiators should be enough assuming it's basically the same format? Valenciano (talk) 14:04, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- The idea behind both american and otehr coutnries gladaitors are teh same but wha tthe do and hwo they do it are compeltely differnet as was found out in the itnernationla gladiator show commission by the uk gladiators. feel free to add a genereal term about gladiators but try find s site on the uk version to help make it more uk gladaiator stgreamlined, there onyla few sites for it anf only one migh tbe relaible--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 17:58, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Mike Aherne aka Warrior
[edit]Why is there no mention of him?
The former Gladiator and and Merseyside detective Elmore Davies were both found guilty of corruption and perverting the course of justice.
Mike Ahearne, 'Warrior' on the ITV show, from Oxton, Wirral - was convicted after a 24-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
Along with a third man, Tony Bray, 50, of Moreton, Wirral, they were found guilty of plotting to scupper the prosecution of Philip Glennon Junior, who was later convicted of firearms offences. The news story —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.172.0.240 (talk) 21:57, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Requested move
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Both moved by another editor - I've closed since both have now been moved. –Davey2010 • (talk) 21:30, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Gladiators (original UK TV series) → Gladiators (1992 UK TV series)
- Gladiators (revival UK TV series) → Gladiators (2008 UK TV series)
– Dates are the typical way of further disambiguating TV series when nationality isn't enough. And I don't think a single episode on New Year's Day really makes the proposed title less valid. Either way, Gladiators (UK TV series) needs to redirect to Gladiator (disambiguation)#Television as incomplete disambiguation, rather than to this article. --BDD (talk) 15:15, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Move to exact years IE Gladiators (1992 UK TV series) and Gladiators (2008 UK TV series). Compare with the disambig page for Top Gear and that move discussion. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:57, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- That's right. I've been away from RM too long. I'll amend the request accordingly. --BDD (talk) 20:55, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. I know that The Twilight Zone (1959 TV series) is disambig'd by the year. I knew there was a policy on this too and it's at WP:TV-NAME for future reference. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 12:18, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

- Comment the current names are the result of cut-and-paste moves. The edit histories for these pages exist at the proposed names. Histmerge back to the proper page names -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 05:08, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Histmerge has been requested at WP:SPLICE, as all four pages (article page and talk page) were cut-and-pasted by Wonderwizard (talk · contribs), perhaps a check for other cut-paste moves should be done. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 05:19, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- BIG PROBLEM Wonderwizard has indeed cut-pasted other pages. At the very least Gladiators (2008 UK TV series) Series One was cutpasted to Gladiators (revival UK TV series) Series One, so I suspect that other pages have similarly been improperly moved around and had their histories orphaned. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 05:24, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

- Looks like Anthony Appleyard has done the histmerge and effectively approved the move. Is that accurate, Anthony? --BDD (talk) 18:07, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- I obeyed a request to history-merge these 2 pairs of pages. If the move discussion ends up as "reject", then move them back to Gladiators (original UK TV series) and Gladiators (revival UK TV series). The history-merge request that I obeyted, gave me the impression that the move part of the request was uncontroversial. Sorry. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:19, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of series episode detail
[edit]Someone has deleted the episode info from across the series pages on the event line ups (such as contenders taking part and events appearing). This took myself and others a real long time to write out and I do not appreciate it just being deleted like that. it is not excessive detail. There have been comments that references are not reliable - I assumed IMDB was a reliable source. If the sources was what was at issue then why not raise it with the people who added the content to the page rather than just doing one mass cull. That info culled was of interest and use to Gladiators fans. (Aquaplex (talk) 21:15, 23 July 2017 (UTC))
- Assuming a long standing, reputable and well sourced site is reliable was your first mistake. This site is mostly opinion pieces and revisionist history. Find yourself a self published Doc Brown type character to back up your edits, and those edits will be protected. 92.22.254.132 (talk) 06:21, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
