[edit]There should be a listing of the islands like the one that's on the Line Islands page. The present listing isn't nearly as nice. I am not skilled enough to do it. CharlesRobertCountofNesselrode 17:28, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- I added the correct coordinates. Cannot find data for the population by island column. tiktak 16:25, 02 July 2007 (UTC)

- Ok, added the population data from that source (official 2005 census) ^_^ tiktak 06:40, 08 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll do it. I was the one who did the Line Islands table, and the Islands of Tuvalu table. Below is the start layout, based on the Tuvalu table. I will continue when I have more contents together. I want to proceed north-south.--Ratzer (talk) 12:41, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Table of Islands
[edit]- table in preparation on this discussion page
- will be moved to article page when finished (and replace the island map and table there)
- notice: this is an atolls/islands table, not a table of local government districts/island councils
- difference: each atoll is a local government districts/island council, except:
- Tarawa (divided into Tarawa North, Tarawa South and Betio)
- Tabiteuea (divided into Tabiteuea North and Tabiteuea South)
- Of the 16 island units, 11 are atolls, 4 are single low lying coral islands, and one (Makin) is a string of 5 islets arranged in a line north-south
- of course, only the atolls have lagoon areas
- table has been moved to article upon completion--Ratzer (talk) 18:26, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
sources
[edit]- the sources printed bold have been used in the table since they made most sense
- there are large differences in land are figures among the sources, I used the source that appeared to make most sense and in many cases showed the figures found in most other sources
- there were two sources identifying capitals, none of them seems without mistake (e.g. Butaritari, Pyramid Point)
- there is only one source giving lagoon areas for all atolls
- land areas, population, capitals
- land areas of 11 islands, short descriptions
- land areas, Kingsmill group
- land areas (whole km²), pop. Since 1985
- land and lagoon areas (mi²), good descriptions, maps
- land areas (whole km²), pop., capitals
- land areas of 11 or 12 of the 16 islands
- land+lagoon total areas (for 9 of the 11 atolls, seem too high)
- historic population data:
- free NASA sat images —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ratzer (talk • contribs) 14:07, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- I HTML-commented out a line of data labeled in German that didn't match up with anything else:
Makin (Inselgruppe) 789,2
Lagune 34,3

vandalism?
[edit]looks like someone's had fun with this. should it be assumed that "Famously home to the Glberts, who are known to be incredibly dappy. They are lead by one superior Gilbert called Lord Gilbertini.", and the final "GILBERTS" footer are trash and should be deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.63.174.10 (talk) 11:28, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Land areas
[edit]Land areas have been corrected to Kiribati 2005 Census Report areas. Other sources aren't necessarily wrong - the land area of an atoll is not an exact quantity - but the Statistics and Lands offices in Kiribati are responsible for defining these areas and they are consistent with other Census data eg. density.--Obkiribati1 (talk) 21:57, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
Population section
[edit]This section jumps around in time, with the last paragraph referring to Mahaffy's 1909 report. Also, Mahaffy claims that the clothing of shocking shape and atrocious colour is replacing picturesque kilts of leaves and woven mats, rather than claiming that this clothing is changing into the kilts. Perhaps this paragraph should be moved before the "At the outbreak of WWII" paragraph, and its last sentence be rewritten to make clear that the shocking, atrocious clothing is replacing the older kilts. 192.4.0.12 (talk) 17:46, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
1975-1976 Separation
[edit]“AND WHEREAS on 1 October 1975 Her Most Excellent Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was graciously pleased to establish the Ellice Islands as a separate colony under their ancient name of Tuvalu;”
(With Tuvaluan Order in Privy Council) doesn’t mean that GEIC disappeared on 1st October 1975. It took 3 months, as established in this order, to enter in force the separation. The new headquarters were transferred on 1st January 1976, and the new colonies’ flags were raised only then.)--Arorae (talk) 12:00, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
Communications and Peace Corps
[edit]My apologies. The two sections I just added should properly be on the Kiribati page. I'll move them. Zatsugaku (talk)
