[edit]Hey folks,
I am wondering if anyone feels strongly about the List of Works being ordered by date or if another organization scheme might make his work more accessible. I am thinking it might be more interesting and relevant to organize them by category such as Hotel, Govt Building, Private Residence, etc. What do you think? Citations for early life section
[edit]Greetings! I noticed that the early life section is completely devoid of references. While the persistent removal of a disputed passage by RayanHetti is a violation of WP:3RR, the restoration of the text is not exempt from 3RR either.
My question is, should the entire early life section be removed, and not just the comment that Bawa's father was of Muslim ancestry? There's a further point, I think, of needed to clarify nationality rather than religion. Conversely, what reliable sources can be cited to back up that section.
Pinging all editors involved in the removal/addition. @RayanHetti, Dan arndt, Blackknight12, and Dinuka25: I'd like to see some constructive discussion here about sourcing for the paragraph. —C.Fred (talk) 17:13, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- C.Fred, I've added references about Bawa's parentage. At that point in Ceylon's history an individual's heritage was important particularly if you could establish European ancestry, given that at that time Ceylon was a British colony. Dan arndt (talk) 02:06, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- The point is probably moot given that Dinuka25 and RayanHetti have been blocked for sockpuppetry. Dan arndt (talk) 02:13, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- It seems we have a new sockpuppet in action. Dan arndt (talk) 09:13, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure "Muslim ancestry" actually means anything: Islam is a religion, not an ethnicity. Just for once, the sockpuppets might have a point, unless there's a cite for the use of this exact term. You might want to use a form of words like "[his father], [was] a Muslim from Ceylon": but again, you would need a cite to support this. I've changed it to read "a wealthy and successful Muslim lawyer of Sri Lankan and European parentage"? -- The Anome (talk) 06:57, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- I've added a reference to support the claim. Dan arndt (talk) 07:37, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you! I think that resolves the issue completely. -- The Anome (talk) 07:39, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
He was/wasn't an expatriate in the UK and Italy
[edit]Anyone who earns a degree as a regular in person student at a university in a country who is not a national of that country qualifies as an expatriate in that country. The article clearly indicates also that Bawa spent significant time in Italy. Expatriate categories apply if the person ever was a national of one country and a short term or non-immigrant resident in another. They also often apply to people who come under immigration pathways but return to their home country. The article indicates that "By the time he was 28 years old, he had spent a third of his life away from Sri Lanka." This is a total of over 9 years. Being away from Sri Lanka that long he almost certainly needs to be placed in some sort of expatriate category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:36, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- If you read his biography he travelled around Europe and spent time in Italy but never settled in one place. If a person had settled/resided in a foreign land for awhile i can understand that they maybe considered an expatriate but to categorise them as an expatriate you need to show more evidence then what youve summised. Dan arndt (talk) 12:42, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- He was a student in the United Kingdom, so he clearly counts as having been an expatriate there. He was there long enough to earn credentials so it clearly counts.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:51, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- That would make them a sojourner as an international student not an expat. If the person was studying with the intention to stay in that country after they completed their studies that might be different. Dan arndt (talk) 13:11, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- This seems to me to be too narrow an application of expatriate. An expatriate in a national of one country residing in another country. I think it is most reasnble to use the term fairly broadly, and only exclude from it those who have stays that can really only be described as travel. So I can see an argument against including a year or less exchange student, but I think anyone who is connected enough to actually earn a degree should be counted as an expatriate.John Pack Lambert (talk) 17:22, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
