The result of the move request was: No move. Consensus is that Disney-based disambiguation is better for these characters, especially for Genie (Disney), as Genie (Aladdin) could refer to the version of the character in the original Aladdin story. This seems to be the consistent solution for Disney characters that are based on traditional stories. Cúchullain t/c 14:38, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
– The film title is used when disambiguating characters. See Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(films)#Character_articles 2601:196:8601:58B3:90CF:2EB9:3F5E:664D (talk) 18:24, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- While technically you are correct, I'm not sure. I did a very fast spot check and a lot of Disney animated character articles use "(Disney)" to disambiguate. This might need a bigger discussion over at the WP:NCTV page as it affects much more articles.--Gonnym (talk) 21:00, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support and this RM can probably be canceled and the pages moved without controversy per RM's about characters of The Little Mermaid, Frozen, The Lion King, and other films. Randy Kryn (talk) 01:21, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose: Titling an article like "Genie (Aladdin)" gives the impression that it is the character from the original Aladdin story, not the Disney one. --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:05, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose, the characters have appeared in other media besides Aladdin, including video games like the Kingdom Hearts series. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 10:02, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support per WP:CONSISTENCY with established consensus shown in other RMs related to Disney - Talk:Scar (The Lion King)#Requested move 18 February 2018, Talk:Elsa (Frozen)#Requested move 28 February 2018, Talk:Ariel (The Little Mermaid)#Requested move 7 April 2018. Appearances as live characters in the park or in other media are "guest" appearances from the main franchises these characters belong. We don't name characters by their production company. -- Netoholic @ 04:33, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- To some extent, it also appears to depend upon whether the characters are also pre-existing. See, for example, Talk:Cinderella (Disney character) and Snow White (Disney character), or more importantly for the current discussion, Aladdin (Disney character). Dekimasuよ! 21:01, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
This would imply Genie (Disney character) for at least the first one, and perhaps agreeing with Necrothesp on the other two, or else moving all three to "(Disney character)" titles. Dekimasuよ! 21:12, 9 August 2018 (UTC)See below. Dekimasuよ! 20:53, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose as per Kailash29792. If a move is seen as desirable, then it would seem to me that "Genie (Aladdin (franchise))" would be a better destination in that it maintains consistency with the current page Aladdin (franchise). --Rob Kelk 17:21, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
- That suggestion doesn't even follow one of the basic tenets of WP:DISAMBIGUATION in that we never nest parentheticals like that. -- Netoholic @ 03:17, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose first, support others. The problem with the Genie is that the Genie is a character in the story of Aladdin, not just the film. Whereas this article is just about the film character. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:15, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose all per Kailash29792. None of these articles are about characters from the traditional Aladdin story, they're all specifically about the Disney characters. So the current disambiguators seem more appropriate and WP:PRECISE. — Amakuru (talk) 14:35, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose all - I took time to think this over. While "Disney" is not an option in WP:NCTV, I believe this is where the guideline fails and WP:IAR policy comes into play. There are articles for non-Disney uses of this name: 1805 play, 1941 opera, 1958 film, 1979 musical, 1992 film and an Indian TV series all named "Aladdin" for the article name. There are even more articles which have slightly different names with the "Aladdin" name in them. Disambiguating by "Aladdin" does not solve the the ambiguity of the name, so it is a bad title. Using "Disney" does indeed solve this. I will also add that while "Disney" is not a franchise, it could also be argued that it does indeed fit one. Disney character articles talk about the characters in other Disney-owned productions, with the Princess Jasmine article, as an example, talking about Aladdin (2011 musical) and Once Upon a Time (TV series). In addition, Disney Princess is a media franchise for most of the Disney princess characters. In our case, Jaffar's article also talks about his Once Upon a Time and Hercules (1998 TV series) appearances. In my opinion, this fits the spirit of the NCTV guideline. I'd also argue that the previous moves were incorrect since The Little Mermaid has the same exact issue as Aladdin and the other articles should have been styled the same per WP:CONSISTENCY. --Gonnym (talk) 11:39, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose all - Building upon what Dekimasu said, I would say that all of these articles should be renamed to (Disney character). Due to their points and WP:CONSISTENCY. Dreamy Jazz talk | contribs 21:22, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Usually NCTV adds "character" to the disambiguation when the character is the same name as the film. Aladdin (Disney) can mean either the film or the character so that doesn't help, but Iago (Disney) is ok, as there is no other Iago thing for Disney. In terms of WP:CONSISTENCY they count the same. --Gonnym (talk) 21:26, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- That makes sense. Although there is also The Return of Jafar, that's a partial match. I didn't !vote before, but based upon this, I'll say oppose. Dekimasuよ! 20:53, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. Due to it being noted that the proposed title creates more ambiguity than previously. (closed by non-admin page mover) — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 21:17, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
