A fact from Gas Light and Coke Company appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 3 October 2007. The text of the entry was as follows:
|
Untitled
[edit]This company was the first in London to supply domestig lighting gas, and is the original in the chain that is now British Gas plc. Cruftbane 22:09, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- OK, now you added that statement plus references I'm satisfied with its notability and have removed the speedy delete tag. Blair - Speak to me 22:10, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Dubious claim
[edit]" It is identified as the original company from which British Gas is descended"
British Gas was the result of the merger of regional gas boards, Southern Gas, NEGAS, NORGAS etc. If no one objects I shall remove this statement.
- I've mended the link from British Gas which provides the origin of the claim - have a look and see what you think (see 'The old man now narrates'). Pterre (talk) 13:08, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
The link is a dead one again. Without seeing the claim I cannot be sure, but suspect that what they meant (which I believe would also be true) was that the GL&CC was the oldest of the companies which after the sequence of mergers, changes of ownership etc from 1949 onwards became British Gas plc.
