- Garton → Garton, Holderness
- Garton on the Wolds → Garton-on-the-Wolds
- Middleton on the Wolds → Middleton-on-the-Wolds
– DAB from Garton-on-the-Wolds (who's civil parish is just "Garton"). There are quite a few other articles at intitle:"Garton" which are mainly surname holders and thus they could be included on the DAB to. The Holderness village gets 73 views while the Wolds one gets 134[[1]] thus there is likely no primary topic. The Holderness village could also be moved to Garton in Holderness per WP:NATURAL or to Garton, East Garton per WP:UKPLACE since that's its parish though that would be a bit tautological and thus probably not a good idea. The Wolds village should also be moved to "Garton-on-the-Wolds" per the OS along with Middleton-on-the-Wolds. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:13, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- I would move it to its natural name of Garton in Holderness rather than use the comma version. The other ones are OK with the spaced version. Keith D (talk) 20:53, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose Garton → Garton, Holderness. No evidence that this is not a TWODABS situation with the current Garton being the primary topic. Oppose per no good reason to change per WP:TITLECHANGES. Abstain on the other two. --В²C ☎ 21:10, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
- A Google search returns the Wolds village on the right (with an option to click on the Holderness one) and the rest of the Google results are mixed between the 2 places. But... there are people with the last name as well at the 2 full matches that we can link on the DAB. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:24, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Born2cycle: given that there is Timothy Garton Ash, Stanley Garton, Troy Garton, George Garton, Ray Garton, Gabriela Garton, Billy Garton, Adam Garton, Garton Hone, John Garton, Andrew Garton, Ryan Garton, Brad Garton, Garton del Savio, Garton railway station (not a PTM), Orme Garton Sargent, Cec Garton, Garton Toy Company, Garton Lough, Brian Garton Jenkins, James Garton, Henry Garton, Jim Garton, John Garton (MP), Abraham Garton, Elizabeth Garton Scanlon, Alan Garton, Garton Orme and Robert D. Garton that can be linked to on the DAB do you still oppose? Crouch, Swale (talk) 09:47, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- As these are names they probably should go on Garton (name) or Garton (surname) without the need for a main dab page. Keith D (talk) 10:41, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Agree per WP:NAMELIST but a (generic) DAB would also be needed since that would make 4 (or 5) topics, Holderness, Wolds, station, name (or given name and surname) plus Garton Toy Company. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:50, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not seeing any other topic named just "Garton". Maybe the railway station, but the village arguably has a two dabs primary topic claim over the station per page views [2]. I just don't see a good enough reason to move to overcome WP:TITLECHANGES. --В²C ☎ 17:26, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- The same logic would apply to Freston that there are 0 other uses of "Freston" while there are 3 uses of "Garton" and many PTMs. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:29, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, but the rarity of Freston as a surname (only two people) makes it likely to be used as a search term for someone with that surname; that's not the case for Garton, as your list shows. To illustrate the relevance of relative rarity, consider Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush - no one is likely to look for those article by searching with the relatively common surnames "Carter" or "Bush", and so Carter and Bush are dab pages. On the other extreme, Nixon, Reagan and Obama are much rarer surnames and each is a PRIMARYREDIRECT to the respective president's articles. --В²C ☎ 17:41, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- So you think that Freston should be a DAB page (even though its actually unambiguous) but Garton shouldn't be even though it is, WP guidelines are clear that if there are 2 or more topics ambiguous with a term (like Garton) then it should usually go to a DAB page and if a topic is unique (as Freston is) it should be at the base name. Readers searching for "Garton" could easily be looking for one of the other ambiguous topics or even one of the many PTMs unlike Freston. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:23, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
