I'd suggest that film studies be separated from film theory, to which it currently redirects.

Film studies is an academic discipline that may include theory, but it may also be oriented to criticism or history. --Jeremy Butler 20:38, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is well researched and well written, you do a really good job of providing an overview of a broad topic. My advice is really just to rewrite some of the sentences, occasionally they sound a little weird or not too clear. But overall this is really good Seanquigley (talk) 20:01, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Great job capturing the essence of film studies and its growth and development over the years. Well-organized article with lots of diverse material. 1) I'd like to see a sentence or two telling us what the relevance of the list of people are to the discipline. Perhaps they should be divided into two groups -- film critics/academics and filmmakers?

2) This sentence (in the first part after the opening) doesn't really make sense. "Film studies as an academic discipline is a twentieth-century concept that has not been intertwined with origins and History of Film." I think it is because of the reference to the entry History of Film, but it would be good to fix it. There are a few other sentences that could be written more clearly as well.

Nice job on this rather large subject. Radavis147 (talk) 16:56, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Factual Error: In the 'World Film Studies' section, this article states "Due to the high cost of film production third world countries are left out of the film industry" - I suspect this reflects a 'US-centric' worldview, very common on wikipedia. It reflects poorly on the whole article. The Nigerian film industry pumps out more films than the US, though mostly of very poor quality, and is second only to the Indian industry. To quote from the wikipedia page on 'cinema of nigeria'; "The cinema of Nigeria grew quickly in the 1990s and 2000s to become the second largest film industry in the world in terms of number of annual film productions, placing it ahead of the United States and behind the Indian film industry". Would someone like to correct this? If not, I will do it in time, when I have more time. FiveDavid — Preceding unsigned comment added by FiveDavid (talkcontribs) 01:35, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Came in to state basically what was said by the above. The World Film Studies section needs revising or just removal. The topic itself does not fit well in the article and beyond that factual error, the style is choppy and contains errors. Either way, the idea of film study throughout the world is addressed tangentially in other parts of the article and the section doesn't seem all that potentially useful. Hi there Wikipedians, I noticed that the "Filmmakers" subsection is almost entirely men -- this needs to be changed! While film studies has historically been a field biased in favor of male directors, there have been numerous extremely influential women filmmakers at the forefront of the industry since its inception. Female voices are all too often left out of the history of film, and correcting this systematic bias would be an important step towards visibility and equity in the film studies field. Hi Wikipedians my name is Mariam, I have a question which is related to the topic of film studies. How is the discipline of film studies presented in different parts of the world other than America? MaryamAl-Suwaidi (talk) 11:20, 1 February 2019 (UTC).[reply]

This is a terrible article. It needs to be completely rewritten by someone who knows something about the subject. The list of film-makers and critics is a complete waste of space. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.195.225.89 (talk) 13:45, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
